Kudos to Clint at Rebel Racing Products
Long time lurker here, first time post. Please bear with me as I'm going to wear you guys out with questions and advice before long...
Anyway, just picked up this hodge podge abortion of a neglected outlaw car. Not my first 911, recently totaled out a 996t, and decided it was time to look into an air-cooled. The car i picked up was a 1968 912 chassis, with what appears to be an early 80's 930 wide body kit. Front fenders are full fiberglass as are the add-on rears. Kit was done will who knows how many years ago, but it's show its age, and will need help in the rear soon. Power plant is 2.2 out of a 1970 911t. Trans I am not sure of, but will need to be changed out to something better at some point, as I feel at any moment it will come apart internally, lol. The first item at hand is suspension. Rear torsion bars are wasted, sagging, and won't tighten back up into a lifting configuration no matter what. All bushing are shot. Front torsions are sloppy and worn out, as are the ball joints and every bushing up front. On top of that, it has the early 1968 ball joints that mount to the arms with 2 bolts (undesirable). I bought this car to drive the piss out of it. I am not a Porsche Purist, I am a driver, but I love all things 911. Right now the thing rides like a loaf of bread, floating in a bucket of water, floating across a river. The drive home from Cleveland to Cincinnati was one scary ride. I decided to go ahead and upgrade the entire suspension system to a full coil over conversion which meant that I also could not reuse my front control arms, as they don't use the correct ball joints to mount the front coilovers that are made for them. So, that required that I source later model 911 control arms, or upgrade to the GT3 or 935 front bolt on kits that are available. After a lot of research, hours of chatting with Magnus and a few lengthy phone calls with suspension suppliers, I have decided to go with the full conversion kit offered by Clint at Rebel Racing Products. I've never had a supplier make me feel so important and at ease with a product purchase. The price for what i got was less than half of what the same components cost from Elephant. I almost went with Elephant until i did a little more research on the matter, and I'm really glad I did. Stuff should ship out to me this week, and I can't wait to dig into the project. I will post pics of the parts and step by step of everything I do along the way. Stay tuned! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I'd been working a deal with him for about 4 months, then finally pulled the trigger. Had to wait until I sold my NSX.

Clint is good people. He's been around a long time and has some great products.
Good luck with your project! It's great to see folks still hot rodding these cars instead of making garage queens out of them.

Good to hear you say this... I get a lot of flack from purists... but I don't care. I like to drive, and I do whatever it takes to make the car drive better. The porsche look and feel, and smell is what makes my gears turn...
