Parts Geek warning

A week ago I posted for help trying to locate a cat converter for my 86 911. Several helpful members posted some links and I tried both. Amazon didn't have them in stock even though they said they had 18 and so I turned to Parts Geek. 3 days later I had one shipped from San Diego. Unfortunately on the cat itself was this huge sticker that said " Not legal for sale or use in California" nor was a CARB anywhere to be found. They don't have a phone number for customer service and everything has to be handled via a trouble ticket. So the first few replies were the annoying " Is there any other markings?" then the please send a picture of the sticker. a day later I get a PDF sent to me ( took 3 times as they kept sending me a corrupted file) that was from 2009 saying the manufacturer was approved as a California company. I again said thats fine but that doesn't make the sticker disappear. I further added that if they wanted to obtain a CARB for the unit and send it to me that would be ok as well. 2 days go by and they issue a RMA...and wanted me to pay the shipping. haha. In the same email they said refunds take 2-4 weeks. One call to my credit card company and suddenly a shipping tag appears. A step in the right direction but what drama.

Yes, that is the problem with them. I ordered a starter for my 356 a few years back and knew that I could not contact them direct via a phone number if I had an issue and that is why I don't buy from them too much. Too much of a potential hassle.

That is definitely a problem. I use them a lot for everyday cars I work on. Mistakes boils down to a screw up I make if the part is wrong. The only mistake they made was shipping a part twice and charging me once. If the cost is under $50 and I screwed up, part goes on the shelf and I eat it. Maybe three times in six or seven years given one order a week. That said, I just put all new control arms on a Passat. Customer bought them from R o c k a u t o . Customer screwed up with a mid year vin number change. One of those "this kit to this vin and that kit from that vin" issues. He called them and got a human. Pretty fast. The news was not good since we installed most of the arms but the human factor was refreshing. Above is all meaningless to R-Trojan's issue. Cats are marked in the PG offer as CARB compliant or not. It's in your face. He did not miss it and now they are slinging wind to FIRST cover their rear at his expense. Drama indeed. If it were $22, eff it. It's not though. The CARB cats are steeper than the rest. Good luck and keep us posted.

I am not that old, but old enough to call and make an order everytime I need something over $250.00. If there is no phone number on the website, I will not buy from them. If there is no answer nor call back same business day, I will not buy from them. Hence, why I m loyal to few places I buy, regardless if the item a bit cheaper elsewhere. **** robots
