Hey All...I have a 901 out of my '69 T and it needs a rebuild. I took the rebuild class with Jerry Woods and Bruce Anderson...a few years ago to say the least. I want to do a good solid rebuild...possible LSD as well.
The question is...is there a good local (West Los Angeles) shop that I can take it to or should I do it myself? I can do it from a technical stand point...but two little kids and crazy job don't give me much time. Now...and more... This is one small part of renovating the '69 T. Body is being worked and painted now by a local shop. I have everything else to put it back together with smart racing suspension etc. Another question is related to the trailing arms. I have a set of SC aluminum arms (with brakes, fronts too) that I was going to possibly use. Some have told me the shocks are a problem...angle and mounting. Also related to the 901 would be the output shaft flanges. This has been a long time of waiting to get to drive this car...story for another post. Any help would be great. Thanks, Andy

There are many good shops in the LA area. I like TLG in North Hollywood. They did the type 911 on my '71.
There are several threads on the trailing arms. Mostly I hear the issues associated with '70 and '71 cars. I would think the '69 would be the same crossmember but maybe not. The angle of the damper is wrong and it will usually rub the sides of the housing. There are modifications you can do to the arm or you can usually remove the dust covers to gain enough clearance from what I understand.

There's lots of good shops in WLA / LA area.
When the dust settles is how much have you budgeted the rebuild at. Based on my limited knowledge and mileage on the 901, you can expect to get a billet intermediate plate, main shaft bearings, dog teeth and syncros. The LSD will add you an $1000 used to $ 2800 + for the popular Guard. One more thing, if you do add a LSD, make sure the shop has the appropriate tools to set up the specs. .vs simply eye balling it. Back to your question, you have Red Line, TRE and Glenn Yee Motorsports in San Dimas to name a few. |
