I found a used "911 Chips" on Pelicans 911 parts ads, It was in good used shape and exactly set up for what my motor is set up as. I have extensive mechanical background, so I put it in one afternoon.
To make a long story short, the car didn't want to run, ( an '83 911S/C w/ an '84 3.2 motor), even with the original chip. I called Steve, and he spent at least 1/2 an hour going over the things he could think of, but no go. Remember, I didn't buy the chip from him, this was purely to help me, and stand behind his product. It became obvious the DME had gone haywire. How the crap these things w/ electronics happen is beyond me. So I mail the DME to Steve, and he gets back to me in a couple days, There is something seriously wrong w/ the box. After several phone calls again trying to figure out what I could of done on my end to make it happen, (nothing we can figure out), he spends another 15 hrs. to go over it. Finally he pulls out the guts from a good one and sends it back. The car starts immediately, and with the tips and info on setting up the car, it runs much stronger than any 3.2 I've ever had, or driven. All in all, I figure he made maybe $20 an hr. for his time, and GAVE me the guts from a box he had that is worth much more than what he charged me. Also, he checked the chip I bought online for problems, and told me several things again to look for, which he was right about. 1) The 2 "BROWN" wires were hooked together by the DME, pulling back timing. Simple unhook to fix that, 2) Steve figures that 30% of the 3.2 throttle bodies do not get full throttle upon fully depressing the gas pedal. Mine was only opening about 85%. A simple throttle lineage adjustment cured that. 3) The throttle position sensor can be out of adjustment and the computer will not go to full enrichment, very easy to check. Mine was fine. So if you have a 3.2 it would be well worth your time to check these out. Anyway, back to the original subject, we are very fortunate to have some great people to associate and do business with in the 911 world, including our host. Where would we be if we didn't have the kind of access to each other and good people to help us out when its needed. Again, thanks Steve. ![]() Last edited by craigerz; 03-18-2016 at 01:30 PM.. I always thought his chips were somehow VIN specific and would not work in another vehicle. Good to know, plus the customer service sounds excellent.
Thanks, Dave

Steve's chips work. Along with M&K premuffler / muffler (1in/1out), my engine makes 240 HP, verified with DynoJet dyno pulls. 30HP over stock.

Steve Wong is THE MAN. I had one of his chips in my '87 Carrera. He definitely stands behind his product - no questions asked.

Steve tuned my '88 on the dyno, near LA, last September.
I mostly wanted to do it to confirm everything was right with my, then, new car. A/F ratios, etc. I mostly did it for that peace of mind and for the improved driveability. I figured any extra power would be gravy. Steve ascertained that, somehow, my original 28 pin DME had been swapped for an earlier 24 pin. So, we exchanged it for one of his sorted 28 pin units. 10 dyno pulls later, I was on my way with 20+ extra horsepower and a big ol' grin on my face. Happy camper. THANKS again Steve!
