3.2 Carrera battery recommendations in 2015? AGM?
Greetings all,
I have searched the forum and I have not come up with anything recent-ish in terms of battery recommendations for a 3.2 Carrera. Plenty of old threads on here with Optima recommendations, etc., but battery technology has improved in the past 5-10 years and my understanding is that Optimas just aren't what they used to be. I am leaning towards a Deka Group 48 AGM 48 for ease of install / removal. AGM for modern, maintenance free technology. Deka as I have heard good things from a shop I trust. Further, I have a Deka motorcycle battery in my Lotus and it has performed well in my specialty application. Further still, I have not heard good things about Interstate and Optima as of late. My apologies if I've missed more recent threads on this topic. Please point me in the right direction if they exist. Best, Frank-- |

I installed a Group 48 AGM from East Penn 3 years ago. No issues at all, very happy with it. My car is only occasionally summer driven and it always has plenty of cranking power. During winter storage I simply disconnect it and leave it in the car and throw a battery tender on it a few times throughout the winter.

I have a Carquest branded version of the same battery. Maybe 4 years old at this point, very satisfied. My only complaint is the terminals are on the wrong side, closer to the fender - so you can't get a wrench on the nut, so you have to reverse the nut and bolt, so the cutouts in the terminal (one flat to hold the bolt and one round to allow the nut to turn) don't correspond. Minor hassle.

These terminal covers fit well if you trim the bottom lip.
Amazon.com: Battery Terminal Cover 2Pcs Red Black 37mmx37mm: Automotive Also note the battery has two vent holes. Connect them to the hole in the pan.

I have the Deka AGM. the shorter one, and love it. Much easier to put in than the old one. I also have a AGM Miata battery in the 911T and a Deka AGM in my two boats. If you want the part number, let me know. Steve

I just replaced my battery this past weekend. The last one was whatever AutoZone had in stock. It lasted nine years. This time, I went with whatever Advance Auto had in stock. $86 out the door.

I would recommend a sealed battery no matter what, especially in the older 911s. Steve

Autocraft Silver. It was $116, but Advance Auto had a $40 off online coupon.

I purchased the Odyssey 680 AGM battery after reading a lot of reviews on here and love it. Saves a lot of weight and you can't beat the price.
this one is from Amazon comes with the terminals installed for $122. http://www.amazon.com/Odyssey-PC680MJT-Automotive-LTV-Battery/dp/B000XEF3DM/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1442861918&sr=8-1-fkmr1&keywords=oddessy+680+battery One note: not sure where you live but I hear this battery does not like cold temps. Not a big deal out here on the West Coast

I put an Odyssey PC925 in my car years ago. I got a little over 12 years out of it with a lot of abuse such as fully discharging it a number of times from forgetting the lights on and what naught. Obviously that is longer then what they tell you to expect out of a battery and it performed very well. I replaced it with another PC925 because it was exactly what fit the bill.
A lot of people go for the PC680 because it is only 15.5 pounds. I just personally felt that I wanted the extra reserve. At 26 pounds it is no heavy weight but just a good compromise. A normal battery will generally be between 36 and 40 pounds. A word about the letter code that comes after the number of the Odyssey batteries: - "M" stands for metal jacketed. Not really needed for our needs but it doesn't hurt. - "L" stands for the polarity of the terminals being reversed. (on the PC925 you will want the L.) - "T" stands for "brass terminal posts included". That will save you a step unless you have converted your battery cables to a bolt-on end. For the 925 I went with the PC925LMJT.

I went with the Odyssey PC925. I'd like to move it to the smugglers box at some point, but either way, it's a good place to lose weight from.

Thanks for the input y'all!
I went with Deka Group 48 AGM, but will consider the Odyssey if the need arises again. |

Followed nineball with the kinetics. Weighs about 20 lbs and has worked great for 3 years now. Installed in my sons 83 an it's been 2 years and still going strong. My sons survived a bad voltage regulator and being drained dead at least 5 times. Just charge it and it keeps going.

Are these Kinetics good for daily driver use? Id like to make the switch from 1000lbs group 48 chemistry lab to something smaller, but I need reliability on a daily basis.

I've been running a kinetic for 1.5 yrs. I drive the car 2x per week. I've had no issues.
