Arrow Help with VIN

Can anyone give me information on this 76 VIN? 49 states, 50 states, or ROW?

Thanks

Tim,

According to the red book. The VIN falls between the upper and lower number for a 1976
911S US targa. 2175 were produce. There is a note stating that the total also includes "all 911S models with california emissions"

9116210001
9116210649
9116212175

911 stands for 911
6 stands for 1976
2 stands for 911S United states
1 stands for Targa
remaining 4 digits is the build number

Hope this helps

Thaks for the lesson Randall.
Looks like this is a car with CA emissions. A mechanic told me all the West Coast cars were the same version. Good since if I buy it I will import it to CA, but of course this makes the head studs a bigger issue.

BTW - I have noticed SEVERAL mid 70's 911's around lately. Clearly they aren't just dying off the vine.

Tim,

I would recommedn that you double check the smog cert for the 76S. When I read the book it did state "all 911S models with california emissions" but this statement appeas to be meaning that the the number just included 76S for CA in the the total car count.

I believe it was not until 1978 or 1984 when the 49 state car became a 50 state car. I don't know which state you reside in but here in CA they are strict on the smog emmission testing. The only way in is if you move to CA, then you can get an exemption.

You may want to inquire to other CA 76S owners as to whether there is a sticker that says that their cars are CA emmission approved or not.
