Winter 3.2 Engine Project

Not sure what to do with my 3.2 motor.

Been reading BA's book, but still have a couple of questions.

Thinking about 3.4 P/C using mass air flow with DME, headers etc.

Another route is to install carbs.

How much am I going to gain (if any) by going to carbs vs DME FI.

Thanks in advance.

I would like to get close to 300HP, I know, but I can dream.

i think it was todd at promototive (sp?) who told me he once did a n/a 3.2 for a customer and hit a brick wall at 250hp. he got around it by using a "high butterfly manifold" (?) and got 275 straight away.

when i enquired some time later about the manifold the cost was about $4k!!!

i have ba's book - i would follow the mods he suggests - including i think he twin plugged??

Hi,

BTW, My first post!:)

IŽll install single turbocharger for my 3.4 during this winter.
Moderate 0.2 boost for 10.3:1 compression engine seems to work.
No other mods, only Motronic chip needs "some" tuning.
Result should be at least 30hp more. Reliability? Yes, I know
one with 20 000km (12Kmiles) since modification (289hp)...and no problems!
If you can do it by yourself, (except tuning, you need Motronic specialist with dyno etc.) total cost/hp is very competitive!

Jim,
I read about the 3.2 mod's in B.A.'s book too. Seems like you can get 30 additional HP with intake and exhaust changes for relatively cheap. If I had a 3.2 I'd do that stuff first, drive it a while and them decide if I needed 300 HP. You might come to the conclusion that 250 HP is good enough.

I've read gearing changes are good for another 50hp equivalent in speed increase.

The 3.4 NA motor I just installed in my '73 has the Mahle Sport P/C at 10.5:1, special Webcam grind, Carillo rods and 50mm PMO carbs. It made 280 RWHP at 6850RPM and 240 ft./lb. of torque at about 5000RPM on the dyno w/ 1-3/4" headers and straight pipes, so 300 flywheel HP is not a dream for the setup you are considering.

Jim,

You could give your 3.2 to me to replace my 2.0 E and go for the ultimate 914-6 - a 3.6. :)

You can get 320hp/277rwhp just with adding a turbo,no internal modifications ,no intercooler,.5bar non adjustable boost:cool:
