I posted this in the turbo forum but thought the main stream 911 guys would like. this is an orginal 55,000 mile 930 (79) that is viper green according to the door tag and the window sticker. this is not a re spray. I know the owner and the orginal owner.

You know, that looks more like Light Green Metallic, not Viper Green. Viper Green wasn't available in 1979, unless you ordered paint-to-sample, and it's a little deeper, non-metallic green.

Got the paint code off of that one? It's a nice car, regardless.

Beautiful car! I think the word you are looking for is not "odd" but rather, "spectacular"!

It look like metallic to me also.

Here is Viper green

Nice car, except I don't like to clean the wheels. I had them on a 911 in the seventies in Germany, never again.

Cheers

Yeah I know as I have seen green mettalic and viper green before neither are the same color in person this is very unique and again I am not new to this I know the tag id is for viper so Porsche may have changed the color spec who knows. Also he does have the orginal wheels and tires sitting on the shelf from when it was brand new. the tires have 1000 miles on them. not that they are any good

I don't have a Redbook handy but I thought there were a couple of standard colors available in metallic versions, one of which was viper green metallic which is actually a different shade of green from the standard non-metallic viper green. JR tell me I am not talking smack (again). Cheers, John

there is no way that color is standard 'viper green'. As stated above, maybe a metallic version. It also might be called viper green, but it in no way is the same mix as the early cars. Give us the color tag and Ill look it up when i get back to shop next week.

Viper Green METALLIC

Here is the same color on a 914 along with the paint code. May not have been a standard 930 color in 1979 but definitely a factory color in 1976. I have also seen a Euro Carrera 3.0 in the same color.

You're correct, although the 911 and 928 often had different colors available than the 914, 924, 944, etc. That color may have been used on some cars but I can tell you it wasn't around in 1979. I'd like to see the paint tag, because if it is painted "viper metallic green" I'd be curious if they used the correct color number for that color or if they gave it a paint-to-sample number.

Anyway, it's not what most of us think as viper green, although I do like it and think metallic colors suit a 930 more than non-metallics.

Cheers,
JR

Wow...didn't know they made a Viper Green Metallic. Learn something new everyday on Pelican. Sharp color for a 70s 930.

Hey John (Kiwiokie), Buck here...have not been able to make it by Wild Fork since I have not been back in Tulsa that much. Do you all (Javadog as well) still make it over there on Saturdays?

Every Saturday. Although, they will be closed this coming weekend for the July 4th holiday, so we will have to figure out something else.

1976 Volkswagen Bugs were offered in Viper Green metallic, which,I am pretty sure was the same color as the 914's.

When did you guys show up to the "Lake Affair" in Lake Geneva? would have like to see your turbo set up. I was there in around 10:00am bug out about 45 min later. looks as if all or5 vendors for the swap meet bugged out by the time you guys got there. Would have like to have seen a better turn out. Maybe after a few yrs, gotta pay the dues.....

My 77 911 is the exact same color as that turbo. It was a paint to sample car and has a paint code on the door jam of 280-9-3. It was supposed to be viper green metalic! Jerry
