Stinger Exhaust on a 3.2 Max Moritz

Hi guys, been through to the last page on Google and Pelican and still have a question or two :

I have recently backdated this '78 Targa into a Retro Lightweight thing, dropping approx 130kg (285lbs). The Engine is a 3.2 Max Moritz big bore with 964 cams, standard CIS and slightly modified exhaust (straight-through muffler, original manifolds). HP is around 230-40 i believe. Currently, the exhaust is a bit louder than SSI with Dansk Sport muffler (my friends '81 SC).

Next on the list is the exhaust. I would like headers (no heat) and a lightweight system. HP gains are wellcome but not the main goal. Quite keen on the European Racing Headers - especially the "stinger exhaust" which has an awesome look. Anyone with experience with this system? In particular: How loud is it? Drivable on the street? It has a claimed 100dB on a 3.6 engine, but don't know how that compares with my 3.2? Any other ideas or suggestions for an alternative system?

Cheers

Martin

What a beauty of a car!

More pics a details on lightening strategy please

Ps. I have SSI and M&K 2 in 1 out on my 3.0 CIS. Super light, great sound, no drone. No heat.

Look for Rarly8 on this forum, he makes M&K

Martin,

Its VERY loud, well over 100 db.

While it works very nicely, IMHO its far too loud for street use.

Thanks! Well it's a pretty straight foreward strategy: Replace steel with glass fiber wherever possible (rear flares are still steel). Remove all interior including back seats and sound deadening material and replace with new RS seats (8kg a piece!) and homemade linings (pic of process below). Weight = Nothing, Sound deadening accordingly = nothing

+1 A few friends run the stinger on their 911 race cars and it is crazy loud.

Fine for a race car but ridiculous for the street.

You'll probably want a headers into a 2in-2out muffler. The M&K 911 Sport would look pretty good on that backdate. M&K Exhaust - 911 Sport Muffler

Perfect. Just the info I was looking for (you and Steve). I really like the 2in-2out as well and agree that it may suit the car very well.

Thank you Nux, I did very similar. That stuff in the back weighs a ton. Mines a '79.

Those megaphones look amazing! Will I go deaf or blind first if I put those on?

I have a stinger from Tarett Engineering on my 3.2 Carrera powered racecar. It's way too loud for the street. I wear ear plugs on the track.

Thanks for the advice guys. I really ment this thing - note the silencers:

But I guess you're right anyway. Should just get a M&K or DANSK 2in-2out. Those megaphones got me thinking though....
