Utimate 911 in "Excellence", perhaps?

I know many of you get "Excellence" a few days after we here in the East get it, but keep your eyes out for what could be the best 911 out there. 2100 lbs. 320 normal apirated HPs. And oh yes, $130,000 bucks. Good article and a interesting car, if money was no object.

dean 12-14-2002 02:20 PM

I'm keepin my eyes peeled. But you know, turbo is the only way to go:D
Flame away my friends:p

kepperly 12-14-2002 09:47 PM

take a look at the power to weight ratio and say that again!!

i believe your turbo would have its doors removed.

If you spend 130,000 dollars you can make anything fast.

Excellence gets into these "price is no object", articles frequently. (Remember the 2 SC's last year). Leaves you scratching your head wondering if they've mistaken most of the subscribers to the millionaire boys club. To enjoy the article, you have to look past the money spent. It would be much wiser to buy a GT2 and sell it for close to what it cost in a few years. But, that would make for dull reading, I guess.

I really like articles like that(I haven't seen this one yet) in the mags for two reasons. One, I get tired of reading the articles were they install $550 shift knob in Boxsters and then say that they don't make you go faster. Two, I don't feel so bad that I have spent only $30k on my car. Sometimes I even tell the wifey about the cars in excellence for that reason.:D

I wish they did more writeups on cars from DIY. One of my favorites was a guy in CA who put a 3.6 in a targa and painted it himself in his garage.

$130,000 later and shifting into third and fouth gear cannot be done with certainty???

Eric Mckenna 12-15-2002 09:25 AM

Is there a NEW issue out on the stands, I should have or what?

89911 12-15-2002 02:52 PM

I just got it yesterday. I think Excellence like to get it to me first to check for mistakes!;)

Elombard 12-17-2002 07:33 PM

That is not the ultimate to me. I would way rather have Jacks 1st Black Beauty!!

Things I dont like:

Full cage for the street?? - just a bar is fine
Body work - Yuk
wheels - yuk
color - never been a big yellow guy. Silver, red, white, mexico blue
No heat or vents?? I like AC!!
6 point belts for the street - wtf?

The rest is pretty cool, I can think of cooler cars for $130K though.

I would not want that guy "managing" my money

Doug E 12-17-2002 08:08 PM

$130k and 4 years to complete? Please. I can think of many different ways I'd rather spend the money but as the saying goes, "to each his own."

VincentVega 12-17-2002 08:13 PM

I agree, he hass a lot of money and time. But, as the saying goes, I wouldnt kick it out of bed. I would have loved to see Jack's car, but there is something about carbon fiber body panels, maybe it's just me.

Eric, I got mine on Mon, but it was in a Postal bag and partially shredded with an apology. In fact, it is so bad, I will have to run to the newstand to buy a proper copy.

If someone could post some pics that would be good. There isn't anywhere round here where you can get that publication.

89911 12-18-2002 06:12 AM

I am not defending this person, but what someones spends and earns financially is there own business. $130,000 by me would be ridiculous. $130,000 spent over 4 years by someone making 7 figures is much less ridiculous. Isn't that why many aspire to earn more to do crazy things like this. Face it, on a smaller scale, all the money and work you put in your car could be much better spent. But that would'nt be much fun either.

Eric Mckenna 12-18-2002 06:21 AM

Hey Guys.. I wouldn't spend it like that if had the money to.. but ya know " to each his own" don't knock the guy to doing with HIS money what makes him happy.. hell if you look at it people say the same thing about us and our cars.. and why do we own our cars and spend our free funds on them .. yes! IT MAKES US HAPPY! so hey let him do as he pleases.. you shouldn't knock him you should embrace him for his love of the car .. and what he has done to it.. so what ever!
:D

Quick math. Yearly income $50,000. Yearly amount spent on car $2,500. Percentage 5%. Yearly income $1,000,000. 5% of this $50,000. So if you spending ratio remains the same and your earning increase, you too could be in an "Excellence" article.:) Maybe this might explain the "Selling car, wife is having a baby!" ads I see on Ebay. Heck, these people own Porsches and can't feed their kid!

Says the guy who just bought a set of $3,000 seats from Europe.

I haven't gotten my issue of Excellence yet, but this sounds an awful lot like a car that I've been absolutely DROOLING over at S-Car-Go for the last couple years. Is it a 73 body with a 993 motor in it? Do they mention if S-Car-Go did all the work? I think the owner lives in Nevada but keeps the car at S-Car-Go because he can't register it in NV for some reason...

If this is the same car, this IS the ultimate 911 IMHO. Like I said, I haven't seen the article yet but I can't imagine that ANY picture would do this car justice. The details are impeccable - the gauge faces, the roll bar welds, the seats, the fuel cell - this thing is a work of art.

Rob King has a photo album 3 inches thick with pictures of every step of the life of the car from when the tub rolled up on the flatbed to the day it went out the door.

If this isn't the same car, well then Excellence has another article to write.

Saw the issue on the newstand today .... All of a sudden I don't feel so bad! ;)
