930 Caliper Rebuild Parts?
I've been chasing a problem with pulling brakes on my '77 911. I have the 81-89 930 calipers, and there's a possibility that the pistons may be binding. This weekend I tried to 'excercise' them, and a couple of the pistons were very difficult to get back in (yes, I had the bleeder open!)
I've been trying to find rebuild kits, to no avail. I've tried Paragon and Pelican, and it seems there isn't a kit as there is for the non-turbo brakes, which consists of new seals and dust boots. I'm told there's a dealer-only kit, which includes new pistons, but it's expensive. Nobody has quantified 'expensive' for me yet. Has anyone else dealt with rebuilding these calipers? I wonder if I could get away with popping the pistons out, cleaning them up, and re-installing them. They had a lot of brake dust and schmeg built up on them.

Thom, You might try Foreign Intrigue http://www.foreignintrigue.com/ The're over here on the East Coast in Maine but they have had some esoteric parts I have been looking for.
Cheers, James

Hello Thom!
I have factory rebuild kit for 81 to 89' 930's two front calipers. It consists of eight rubber gaskets and eight dust shields. You can have it for 70$ plus shipping (purchase price)...i also tought my calipers were sticking but it was pads that were sitting tight beacuse of dirt/oxide...check that first.

Sorry for the OT...Beepbeep, I see you live in Sweden, my wife is from there( she was born in Upsalla). We might be visiting this summer. Any recommendations on places/things to do so we don't get railroaded into "forced family fun".
Cheers, James

Funny, beacuse I live in middle of Uppsala!!! (Luthagen) ![]() ![]() Sweden is wonderfull in summer, which cannot be said about winter. There are heaps of places to visit. Start with "domkyrkan" (big catedral downtown), then check out Carl von Linné's museum, then Skokloster castle, then ride on island-horses in Vendel, take a trip to Stockholm's archipelago. You should also visit Stockholm as well (it's only 50 miles south of Uppsala) If you are around, i can take you to annual "half-legal gearhead meeting on deserted airstrip". (Don't bother taking you wife with you) I hope you are visiting during "midsommar" -party. That's the best part of the year. Drop me a line if you are to appear here ;-)

I sorta kinda rebuilt mine. I replaced the inner seals, same as you do on a normal caliper rebuild, but I left the outer scrapers alone. I was in a time crunch, and wasn't sure how the best way to get them off and on without de$troying the calipers.
I bought the front rebuild pieces from BeepBeep, and the rears at the dealer. My pistons were OK, although I'd munged one of them slightly in an unrelated incident, when I was pushing the pistons back in for new pads. One of the others popped out, and I ended up having to remove the caliper. I filed down the edge of the 'surface anomaly', then dressed it up with #1500 and #2500 sandpaper. The pistons had a couple of little pits, but nothing too serious. These babies very fragile though! Quote:

someday I too will have to rebuild a set of 930s, so inquiring minds want to know if you found an answer to
"Nobody has quantified 'expensive' for me yet" just how much were the parts from the dealer? Jim |

Front rebuild kit cost me approx. 75$ here in sweden (and that's rings and dustshields for eight pistons).
If anybody needs factory rebuild guide, i can e-mail it.
