3.2 Fuel Pump

Hello Everyone,

All of a sudden my fuel pump is making a loud buzzing sound. This is loud enough to hear in the car while driving.

Fuel pump beginning to fail?
The fuel dampener and regulator are new.

Ideas?

Thanks.
Larry

Check your FP mounts and the under tray before condeming the pump. If the under tray is bent and touching the pump, or one or both bonded rubber mounts that support the pump have failed and it's touching the undertray, the noise will increase dramatically.

Maybe the rubber mounts that hold the bracket that hold the pump have failed. When I rebuilt my front end I found the pump basically hanging on the suction hose and discharge hose. If it was against a metal surface I bet it would vibrate a lot. Worth checking as these parts are cheap and available from PP.

My brand new factory pump started to buzz 2 months after the warranty expired :-(. I removed it and put my old one back on. Buzz no more. I did not want to take any chances.

Supposedly, you can check the pump by measuring resistance. I don't know the values; you'd have to search it out or someone will need to chime in on the electrical testing procedure.

Thanks for the tips.

I went ahead and bought another one anyways. My current pump has 90,000 miles on it.
I'll check the rubber mounts on saturday.
