When fun track days...aren't

Not my car, but still heartbreaking

emac 04-08-2016 10:45 AM

Now a parts car!
Ernie

Not too heartbreaking to me . This looks like a dedicated track/ race car . The guys in the game at this level understand this is a big part of the equation.

Heart breaking to me is the car dragged off that looks like this that is a guys daily driver and his buddies convinced him to take his car to the track " aw come on dude the car was designed for the track" "

I really would like to do a couple DE event's this summer/fall to learn my 930.. this is in the back of my head! I know I won't be pushing it to the limits of the car above, but still can't help thinking "what if"

DonNewton 04-08-2016 10:55 AM

Cfos?

jimbeaux911 04-08-2016 10:57 AM

that is definitely not a daily driver! and if you can afford to lose it, race it, and if you cant, dont.

Go for it. I started tracking my 930 last year. 3 HPDE so far...

I drive way slower than the car is capable, as I really want it to come home in one piece. Its still way more fun than you can have on the street...

Assuming you drive at 7/10's or less, very little risk I think...

deserving of your forum name. ;)

Hate to see anyone at the track experience a $20k++ out of pocket accident.
Watching both race and street cars crash feels about the same to me.

Loses some sympathy points in a DE crash if an ego fueled red mist driver lacking supervision or instruction is at fault. ;)

Yes, during a very early warm up session. Drivers are both a little beat up, but OK.

Brokentoy 04-08-2016 12:31 PM

This car was said to have spun, and then hit by a following car.

Poor form to post someone else's crashed racecar. Not cool. Car owner can post and tell his story if he wants. You shouldn't.

Brokentoy 04-08-2016 01:02 PM

Matt, that never dawned on me.
Crap, how do I delete?

Yuo can just pull the images out of the posts with an edit. As the thread starter you may also be able to delete the whole thing with an edit in the first post. Not sure how Pelican's software is set up.

Brokentoy 04-08-2016 01:13 PM

Sorry, pics deleted.
Glad drivers will be ok.
The owner of the car can contact me directly.

That's idiotic in todays world of social media and technology. It would be in poor form to post theories on what happened or pass judgement like 'he should have done this, or that, etc', but I'm sure a lot of people took pictures of the wrecked cars and popped them all over Instagram, Twitter, etc.. . Many threads on here have started out with a pic and then the owner chimes in later to tell his story.

Visit the Rennlist racing forum sometime. It's pretty much understood and very well respected there. Moderators will actually pull the thread. Somewhere like 6spd online that's littered with asshats? Yeah, they post people's misfortune all the time.

It's common courtesy. It's the polite thing to do. If you choose not to respect that it is 100% up to you.

I've seen plenty of those kind of pics on RL over the years. Even videos actually. But like I said, pics are one thing, commentary is completely different. I certainly wouldn't care if it was mine, but no worries either way.. I get what you are saying.
