They are crowned allowing the depth you need for the bigger magnet. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1461882523.jpg

Odd. I emailed app biz and he said 6x9 would not fit. Clearly I'm seeing 6x9 in your pic.

You can buy the app biz rear parcel shelf right here from pelican, aslo 6 1/2 will fit in door panel. I plan on painting bezels black but haven't got to it yet.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1461790172.jpg

That's funny, I bought the same speakers in 5-1/4. Now that I've had the door apart it's clear that the 6-1/2 would fit too. I tried to paint the covers black but wasn't happy with how they turned out. Maybe plasti-dip would have worked better than the rattle-can epoxy I tried. I found these covers on ebay for about $10, in the end I'm happier with them, they look right for my '78.

For the head unit I picked up an open box Brisbane 230 from Crutchfield, pretty happy with function and appearance. As far as modern units go I think it looks pretty good. I'm not into high power systems so I don't have an amp or anything, just the head unit and four speakers. Sound is acceptable for my untrained ears and the BT works much better than I expected - streams audio from my phone and I can carry on a conversation up to 70 mph or so.

I will upload a pic or two as soon as i get a chance - but i have gone the total opposite route...

Who uses CD's these days? A lot of folks stream the music through Pandora and similar apps.

I got a compact AMP and connected an Earthquake Bluetooth equalizer and hooked up 6x9 and 7x8 speakers.

Everything resides under my seat and there is no head unit to be seen. I stream through my phone.;)

So no Fm tuner?

Do you control volume through your phone?

No FM tuner. I don't listen to FM Radio.
The AMP & Equalizer have adjustable settings for volume, fade etc...so yes control higher volume through phone.

Vick, I really like those speaker grills, were they available for the 6 1/2 as well? I am assuming they are no longer available and you bought them used.

Becker TrafficPro and JL 6.5 speakers during the install process. It may be factory, but not for any air cooled Porsche...

The radio has since been changed back to the CDR220 I had there before. Don't need the mapping features on the TP.

6.5"

I wouldn't install rear speakers if I didn't have to, but a previous owner installed some rather large and garish '80s things there and I had to fill the space with something unhideous. They look good, but really don't add much to the audio experience.

Not sure, they might be. I found them as new old stock. Just search for 6 1/2 speaker grills on eBay and see what you can find.
