Clutch stuck to flywheel
Alright guys, I have read all the post and tried all the tricks.....(in gear brakes on hit the starter, jack the rear spin it up to 2500 rpm in 5th and slam the brakes, drive up and down the street on and off the gas bucking it back and fourth hard...) nothing is freeing this thing up. I have verified that I have movement at the clutch release fork of about .700" and yet I can't seem to get this thing free.
Do any of you have any last ditch efforts I can try before having to pull the motor and tranny to pull the clutch?? |

Happened to my 79SC after 16 years in the garage also. I let the engine warm up in idle really good to also get the clutch warm. Then the usual procedure, jerked the clutch and it got free. No problems after that for the last 5 years.

Can you specify what you mean by "jerked the clutch"?

I had a similar case with a 240z that I bought. I made sure that my clutch was indeed working properly and I pushed the pedal all the way to the floor and used the starter to drive the car on my yard and did it till the disc broke free from the plate/flywheel and it took a few minutes doing this through my yard but it did work for me. The car was not running at the time just turned the starter over and used it to fee things up.

Yes, I let the engine run in idle and in neutral for about 1/2 hour to get it and the clutch to operating temperature. Then, as I remember, stood on the brake and moved the shifter into first gear. I don't know exaclty how it worked but that is best I can remember now. The important thing seemed to be to get the clutch warmed up because I figured only caked-up oil could be the glue after 16 years and heat would soften it up.

That was my thought too, and while in there address the usual oil leaks.

Well I figured I would give it one more shot and let it warm up a bit.......sure enough it worked with very little bucking this time.

Get the back wheels off the ground. Get something to hold the clutch pedal down and let the car sit and idle while in gear. I have done this many times to cars and bikes. Has worked every time.

I had a friend jack up his car and let it run until it spun a bearing. Maybe not such a good idea,

Mike,
Last ditch effort. Drive down hill in first with the clutch pedal depressed and slam on the brakes. Brutal, but it works.

Put in high gear and rocked the car back and forth... worked for me, but seemed too easy compared to all the tricks I tried before. Gotta try 'em all!

Thanks for the responses guys.....just as I was about to give up I decided to get it nice and warm and drive it down the street one more time. Broke loose before I made it 50 feet. What a relief!!
