How to remove front light housing
Hi
I need to remove the front light housing from the fender on my 1980 SC. Do I just need to unscrew the bolt in the bottom of the housing or is there more to it? |

Yes, just the bottom bolt. Then you can push up gently and voila! (Mine is non sugar scoop.)

The H4 light has a single screw at the bottom. Remove that screw and the light comes off. Not always easy, either. I almost had to pry mine off.
The H5 lights are a different animal, one where I believe you remove the trim housing first and then remove the light. I'm sure others will chime in. You don't say which lights you have.

Are you talking about the bucket? The part with the tabs at 2, 4, and 6 o'clock and the wires in it and gasket around it? That is either welded or pressed into place, not sure which. Someone more knowledgeable will chime in I'm sure.

You need an angle grinder to remove the headlight bucket from the fender...

That bolt is probably holding the bracket for the oil cooler or similar. To remove the headlight bucket drill out all the spot welds after cleaning the paint off to find them, it will then ease out. (I mean come out with incredible difficulty during which you will spill blood) It looks to be in fine order so I have to ask, WHY?

Well, if the headlight is not falling out every time you brake I would grind out the rust, seal, fill and paint. Looks like the under seal let water through, the other side probably needs checking as well. Removing and refitting the headlight bucket is major panel work and a full repaint of the fender.
