71 911T resto-Instant Gratification

For those that like instant gratification, and dont want to wait around or a months to see the end of a build you'll like this post=).

After selling my last car(which I miss dearly!!):



I stumbled upon an opportunity to purchase an Irish Green 1971 911T last October, 2015. The price was right but I was a bit concerned because the car was partially disassembled. as I discussed the car with the owner I got pretty excited about what I was looking it. The car was Originally purchased by a Mrs Golden from Bozzani Porsche Audi inc in Monrovia, CA. She owned the car and drove it until it was sold in 2001. The car came with lots of maintenance records including its original dealer maintenance book. It was clear she loved the car and really treasured it which makes this car already have a very happy spirit. The next owner drove it daliy from Santa Cruz over the Hill to his job in San Jose. Again, the car was loved, taken car of, and driven! In 2005 the owner decided he wanted to restore the car. He began taking the car apart and then life happened. He was relocated over seas for work and the 911T was put in dry storage. the gentlemen ended up back in Atlanta Georgia had the car shipped there and came to the tough decision to sell her. Based on the story, pictures, and documentation I had to have the car. The deal was made and it was shipped(with many boxes) to Austin, TX. When we got the car and started going through it, it was clear this was a diamond in the rough. The car was sooooo original. It was completely rust free. Its so hard to find an original car like this that was driven, loved, and taken care of like it had been.

Because the car was in such good shape mechanically and cosmetically we tried to keep as much originality as possible. I was hoping to keep the paint but unfortunately it just wasn't possible. There was some minor damage on the roof where apparently a mover stepped on the car during one of its trips to storage, there was also some other discoloration on the doors. Overall, the paint was ok but I wanted to bring this car back. The interior was also pretty tired from years of being driven and the dashboard and door pockets had been lost or thrown away. Other than that it was pretty completed but needed fresh vinyl. We also replaced some of the deco trim and other bits. Mechanically we went through the brakes and gave her a tune up with all the new parts and adjustments that go along with that. The engine was rebuilt about 25K miles ago and the brakes were rebuilt right before being put in storage.

It only took a little over 3 months to get her all back together and I'm pleased to say she's an honest, beautiful, 100% virgin steel, rust free, #'s matching example. I got a chance to drive her for the first time this Friday and had an absolute blast!! Once all this rain passes by I'll get plenty of seat time.

So here ya go...the restoration,if thats what you want to call it, start to finish=) enjoy! I sure did!

Thanks for the compliments!She really is a great looking car and I'm very excited to get her home this weekend.

I ended up leaving her at the shop to take care of the valve adjustment and a couple other small things. Even with all the crummy weather it would've be nice to stare at her in the garage the last few days.

Sorry for holding out on pics but the resto was going so fast I figured I would save it up for one big post. We literally ran into zero surprises with this car which still is absolutely shocking.

I'm curious: You say it's a lot of fun - how does driving this one compare to your previous one (which, BTW, was awesome looking!)?

Thankyou! I wasnt all that excited about the color when I first bought the car. You see a lot of Irish Greens in pictures etc. My buddy has an original Irish 67 soft window targa and I never really gravitated towards the color(its a bit dull due to age).Anyways, thats was its original color so we went with it. When I saw it after the new paint was finished and cut and buffed i was blown away. I can honestly say I love that color now.

Yes! me too. Its nice to have options. The steelies are original to the car per the COA. I bought a set of date matched 71 fuchs to throw on there as an option. When I picked the car up for the drive we put the fuchs on because the Michelin XZX's on the Steelies are at least 10 years old. I grew kind of used to the chrome Steelies on the car and am kind of leaning towards them being my favorite right now. Definitely makes the car look more vintage. But its nice to have the wider rubber with the Fuchs.

Its fun in a totally different way! 2 completely different cars. To me the 71 is fun if you're in the mood for rolling the windows down and cruising. The ride is comfortable, the seats are like squishy recliners, its quiet, its just more relaxed. My hot rod also drove great but the ride was much stiffer(coilovers), the exhaust was louder, the engine rev'd faster, more torque, faster etc.

Both require you to be present and engaged but the 71 felt more like a vintage car while the hotrod gave you the feel of something closer to a modern sports car. Lets be honest, a stock 2.2 911T is not what I would call a fast car. However, for late 60's early 70's technology its got pretty modern driving characteristics which make it a lot of fun. Both are Fantastic in their own way.

Im really excited for the completion of my replacement hotrod. Its the conda green 70 in the rear of the pictures above. The 3.6 were putting in it should make it an absolute blast to drive!!
