Post Porschephile

Ok guys, I am writing a paper for my college composition class. I am supposed to pick any slang word and describe it for people who don't know what it is. I am thinking about doing it on Porschepile. So, I need some of your descriptions of a Porschephile. Unless someone has a better slang word to use...

Help out a phellow Porschephile.

Porsche, through and through

I am sure a long diatribe (sp?) discussing the (fictitional) appearance of the word in the early 1960s to describe those people hopelessly infatuated with sporty rear engined air-cooled cars would do.

It could cover the metamorphasis to the current situation where a true Porschephile is less common than a 356phile or 911phile or a 944phile or 928phile, etc, and how Porschefiles as a group would be the only class of person to differentiate one another between these subtleties. The wine and cheese crowd preferring not to expend the energy, rather to call all Porschephiles.

In other words, make up a whole load of BS.

Cam

I relly like the word "ricer". It says it all.Porschefile is such "broad terminology" I think it would be so very hard to label us as such because we are a very diverse group. We really cover both ends of the spectrum (as recent posts clearly show). Ricers on the other hand...
P.S> Does spelling count on this paper?!&*^>

Porschefile sounds mildly pejorative, to me. Terms like audiofile, cinefile, and technofile vaguely imply an almost prissy devotion to a narrow field. But maybe that's me (and speaking of prissy, who says things like "sounds mildly pejorative," anyway? ).

I'm probably a Porschefile, aren't I?

I like Porsche Enthusiast better. Porschefile sounds like a PCA concours guy, to me. Porsche Enthusiast races with the POC.

Other terms, like pedofile, aren't very flattering, either.

Jack,

Isn't it -phile, not -file? As in Porschephile.

Thanks for the idea! I like that better. There are plenty of past threads dealing with "Rice" that I could write for ever.

New topic is "Rice", feel free to give me input!

Actually, I liked the potential in "Porschephile" and in "rice" but actually another word in your original post would make a much better candidate for a paper: "Porschepile."

This is the rusted out hulk that the PorschePHile greedily snatches up with a glimmer in his eye. He sees what the car used to be, and could be again, if he hemorrhages enough money in its general direction.

If you'd like to learn more about Porschepiles, click the link...

About ten years ago, ages ago in Internet life, up to about 1995 some of us were on Porsche mailing list called Porschephiles. It was an interesting group of folks, ran by iron hand listmeister. It was a precursor to this board and Rennlist.

Stray 15? Better not tell your professor this...but wish I could. In this world, there are those who can write (Jack comes to mind here). And THEN, there are those who only give writing assignments. Just food for thought.

I don't follow. Are you dogging me? If so, why don't you come out and say it directly. I won't get hurt...or am I totally on the wrong page?

Sorry..I assumed most on this board knew. Jack writes for a living. He's a screenwriter. Your professor gives writing assignments. Dig? A parody on an old saying: Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach. No personal insult meant. I guess that's what you mean by "dogging"?

A Porschephile would be someone who is friendly to Porsches, but is not a fanatic. The people on this BB are Porschephiliacs, pathologically obsessed with Porsches; an extreme form of Porschemania. The opposite would be, of course, the Porschephobe (nostatic's wife?). And then there is the Porschephone, someone who is familiar with Porsche terminology and can discuss technical details with other Porschephones.
