Help! Krylon paint on my newly-refurbished Fuchs wheels!

At Freeway speed today, an aerosol can of paint was being butted around the highway, and I was lucky enough to run over it. spraying aerosol paint all over the wheel well, the tire and the Fuchs wheel that I just had refurbished. As you can see from the photo, it covered both the anodized and black-painted surfaces. Since I know that these are specially treated and/or coated, I don't want to use a chemical to remove the paint...nor do I want to use anything abrasive. Is there any magic solution?

Thanks

Andy

The anodizing is really tough stuff. Lacquer thinner will take that right off. I've used it on my paint and trim to remove overspray due to a PO. In my experience, if you rub it hard it will remove some of the paint but if you wipe it lightly it shouldn't damage the existing finish. I'd try it on a small area first, obviously.

Yep... Lacquer thinner or Alcohol. Both will clean the paint off the anodizing and if used lightly will not damage the black paint. Just test it on the inside of the wheel to see how it does on the black paint but you should be fine.

The lacquer thinner won't harm the anodizing, but Im not so sure about the painted area.

I would gently try some gasoline on a rag and see if it remove the primer on both surfaces.

Is the paint that is supposed to be on the wheel catalyzed? If so, reducer will take that overspray right off without harming anything else.

Enamel reducer is safer than lacquer thinner.

No problem using ANYTHING on tire and anodizing.

Just be a wimp with respect to the petal coating. Straight rattle can stuff is typically nothing as to strength. You could even try goo gone.

What part is anodized and what part is painted? I'm confused. I thought the lips were brushed and the inner spokes were painted.

Sucks hitting stuff on the road. Bain of my existence. Ran over a rake recently. Grrrr.

The silver is the anodizing. The black is the paint.

Can be more aggressive on anodized surface and tire as suggested. Cleaner wax on painted petals with plenty of elbow grease. Kerosene may cut the spray paint as well.

Maybe claybar the painted portion? I know you can use it to remove overspray.

a tip i use is: after cleaning the paint from the spokes you might remove some of the black paint. re-apply black paint and with a clean rag, use the thinner or whatever you used to get the white paint off to clean the rims around the edges, easy and no masking

^+1

Just be sure to test a small area of the painted fuchs first. Neither will damage anodizing.

Of the many suggestions for removing the spray from the black paint, make a list, then prioritize from mild to aggressive. Begin at the top of the list.
