How many here have experienced DME relay failure?
Did it occur while driving or at start up.
Is this the most common cause of start up failure in your opinion? |

Start up here as well.

Startup.

Ditto.
Start up for me as well.
Intermittent until it wasn't..
Both. While driving it ended by being a bad/worn fuse on the end from spinning to free up corrosion since I am near the ocean.
I got rid of the problem by going to the updated fuse box using bladed fuses. |
Dead on startup.
When my car was delivered it would not start. Even though the PO had driven the car onto into the transport trailer. It was de DME relay.
Driving. Turned off when stopped at a stop sign.
Just last week - start up 1985 911 euro. Changed DME fired right up!
How hard is it to change? Can it be done at the roadside, and where is it? Sounds like I should be carrying one!

Good point...that's why I love this forum. |
Startup 12 yrs ago. Had no idea what the problem was, so I had it towed to a dealer to get ripped off there. I now carry a spare.
Start up, also carry a spare...
While driving, Disengaged the clutch to change gears and the engine just died. Came to a stop and started the car OK. It did this 3 times within about 5 minuets, the last time it would not start anymore. Towed it home, got a new DME relay and all was good again.

Start up.
Bought a new one, the Porsche relay was NG right out of the box. I used a Kaehler all good. I keep 2 in my tool bag just in case. |
Driving. About 15 miles from home and got flatbedded back. Didn't know what the DME was or did, so didn't have a spare. Ordered one online, changed it out a few days later, started right up without any problems.
Start up. Need to buy another spare.
First one caused intermittent misfire and spark cutout at speed.
Second one cut out on a hot day just down the road from where the car heat soaked in a parking lot . After cooling off it restarted. My understanding is that the relays fail from cracked welds resulting from vibration. Somebody here has posted a fix if you're good with a soldering iron. myself, I just keep a spare in the glove box |
