Carpet recommendations?
I am in the process of replacing my carpet in my '88 Carerra 3.2. I have done a bit of research and have it narrowed down to three suppliers that have the kits available. The first is Heritage Upholstery out of Palm Springs, CA. The second is Classic 9 Leather Shop in Dearborn Heights, MI. The third is Pelican. Looking for opinions from those with experience replacing their carpets and any recommendations for the kits.
Thanks. Ruxin

I've done carpets 3 times, twice with World Upholstery kits and once with Autobahn Interiors' kit. I can highly recommend both. I believe the Pelican kits are supplied by World Upholstery. At least they used to be. It's been a few years.

Did my 88 carpets last year......I hand cut mine and it was a bunch of work.... but there was no kit in the carpet I wanted to use.. If you can't do the binding on the edges then you need to an upholster to do that for you. Sorry no help on the OP original question. Was just suggesting an option, if your a glutton for punishment.

I bought my carpet kit from Lakewell. Absolutely beautiful quality and workmanship. The Euro vs the dollar is at a pretty favorable rate now.
Even with shipping, the price was better then many of the others offered. https://www.lakewell.com/en/porsche/911/84-89/interior-carpet-set-porsche-911-84-89

I know the '88 came with a plush cut pile, but I've always like the looks of the square weave German carpets... were probably only used on the earlier models. Just a thought in case you were open to switching styles AND could find a supplier for the more refined look.

I went with a German square weave in a dark charcoal for my 81 SC.
I ordered the full carpet kit from Classic 9 and in fact Bob's team in Detroit installed my new interior. Tough to see in this photo but I think the square weave looks great. |

When I did my carpet several years ago (in my '87), I bought a kit from Apbiz (can't remember if it was through Pelican or not). I went with standard for my car (black sliver knit). I found the quality to be not as good as OEM, but looks really good in the car. Later, I had Classic 9 redo my door pockets (my attempt with the Apbiz stuff was not so great). Anyhow, the Classic 9 carpet quality and workmanship was simply fantastic. I would go back to them (and have several times) in heartbeat.

I got brown German square weave for my '84 coupe from Autobahn Interiors. Was a good kit.
A friend got carpet from Lakewell for her '73 targa, also good stuff with a good fit.

The one thing I found in most domestic carpet kit offerings is the lack of the correct
OEM black heavy duty waffle backing on the floor carpet pieces. Lakewell was my choice because they indeed use the correct backing. I case you don't know what I'm referring to, check the pictures ![]() ![]()

We currently have a promo going on with Lloyd Mat - they're one of the few manufacturers that have the Porsche license to use their type-font and design. Link below.

I have the Lloyd mat. The only thing is that their "blue" doesn't match the original. But I don't care as much about that.

One question about the squareweave: I spoke to someone from a reputable shop yesterday and they told me that the square weave is more difficult to install because it is not as pliable as some of the other types of carpet. And also that it doesn’t look quite as good because when it goes over sharp angles the weave itself spreads apart and shows through. Has anyone experienced this? I love the look (from what I’ve seen) but I want to make sure the install won’t be significantly more difficult and the end result will look great.
