Hi Folks, I’m an owner of two fine Porsches and I just needed some budget minded information so that I can continue owning two Porsches. One is a Guards Red 86 944 Turbo and the other, which is my topic today, is a Linen Grey Metallic 89 930 Targa. I've never posted a topic yet, but here goes...
I've owned my 930 Targa for about two years and I had the engine removed upon purchase for the basic functions such as clutch, spark plugs, valve adjustments, and a few oil lines...The mileage when purchased was around 43K...Now, a year later, I've got the mileage up to 55K and was wondering how often I needed to check and adjust the valves. The car seems to be strong as ever, so I was wandering if it was time for this type of preventive maintenance? Another side question, is can I remove the AC belt during the winter? And, I've got a rear heater hose that seems to be withering away. It's the one that comes off the right side of the heater box and attaches somewhere under the AC Unit. Well, how in the world can I change this hose without loosing all my freon via disconnecting the entire AC unit? |

I believe the manual says the valves should be done every 15K miles. However, the guy who works on my car says that every 20K to 25K is fine. You make the call.

valve adjust every 15K if it needs it or not. too expensive an engine to let it slide too long. and sooner if there's any noticeable ticking. AC belt can come off, but why? the compressor just freewheels. the compressor can be unbolted from it's bracket and set aside on a folded, thick blanket, on the rear fender. then unbolt the top of the AC bracket to get at the heat hose. while you're in there, replace the cam oil line if it's leaking. good time to also replace the oil gauge sender if the gauge is jumpy.
