Oh you had to go there. ;). That motor in a 914 should be an absolute blast. Rode in one with an RS spec MFI which was power slid through the corners and I was instantly hooked. Your motor should achieve the same or better results.

Rick...I thought that the 914/6 comment might catch your attention. I build this configuration to be RS spec-ish, but with higher compression, EFI/ITBs and a good ECU (lot's of acronyms there). This combo provides the ability to optimize the tuning.

it is real!!!

OK....I have Dee's 2.7RS+ tuned up nicely. This is really running very strong and should do a great job of moving his 914/6 around.................:D

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5AOmzwj7DA&feature=youtu.be

9.5:1 JEs
E-cams
TWM/Borla 40mm EFI/ITBs
headers/sport exhaust
Crankfire/EDIS ignition
MS3X ECU (ignition/fuel control)

This will move his 914/6 around with some serious moto-vation. It is now tuned very nicely on my test stand and it is running great.

al

PS: I have a 2.0E being shipped to me, a 2.4T and another 2.7S in negotiations....getting ready to be made into canyon carver engines. let me know if I can make one of these for you.

Beautiful work. It makes me start thinking. How much can I gain adding ITBs and modern injection/ignition to an SC engine with 9.3:1 stock pistons and 964 cams? Am I right that parts for that conversion run about $7000?

Winter is coming.

Dru,
with no other changes made, I expect that you would see on the order of 10%+ HP increase and 15% TQ increase (more if you also add SSIs and sport muffler). My "full meal deal" S3-EFI/ITB kit with ECU and most everything you need is just over $4K. Changing from Triumph Speed Triple to either PMO or TWM/Borla ITBs will add another $1.2K to $1.5K or so. This is a very complete system. You can check out my EFI/ITB system on my website:

Here's the car this one is going into. I'm going to pull and pickle the original number-matching engine and trans and swap in the my new 2.7RS and rebuilt side-shifter trans.

Heading off to Okteenerfest next week and then will start the install process once I get back.

Al, I can't wait to post a video to your thread here with the engine in the car!! (if you don't mind)

Dee,
Have fun at Okteenerfest.....can't wait until you install this engine in your teener and fire it up....buckle up and hold on!!!

its new home

Its in and running. Got the engine compartment cleaned up and freshly painted before putting the new engine in. There were a lot of things I chose to do with the engine and trans out and I added a lot of new parts as the engine went it:
- rebuilt the engine wiring harness to tie into the stock relay board,
- new alternator (and matched regulator!),
- new battery,
- new fuel system (hard lines, soft lines, filters, pump, and regulator),
- ultrasonically cleaned oil cooler with the right new fitting welded on for a -6,
- new engine oil thermostat,
- added some additional sensors to the engine (intake air temp, additional oil temp, and new oil pressure),
- new 1 5/8" stainless heat exchangers,
- new muffler,
- new starter motor,
- new clutch, p.plate, and TO bearing,
- a side-shifter trans (in place of the original tail-shifter),
- new RennShift shifter, new complete Tangerine Racing shift linkage,
- new engine and trans mounts,

and finally, drilled two holes for a couple of 4mm nutserts to mount the EDIS module on the side wall of the engine compartment to hide the electronics, and two 4mm nutserts under the dash to mount the ECU. I wanted to make it look original and not do anything that couldn't easily be undone when putting the car back stock, hence the attention to only 4 new small holes.

My son and I took the car on its first trip this past weekend and it ran pretty well - never hit 210 on a hot Atlanta weekend in the mountains. Still a little more tuning to do and break-in miles to drive with the rev limit now at 4K before we let her rip.

This is the first project of this magnitude I've taken on and while I know this sort of thing is old hat for many of you, its been a steep learning curve for me.

I have to say that Al has been great through the process and has answered many a stupid question. Thank you very much Al!!
