removing A/C...can I cut the hoses?
I am removing the A/C on my 82SC...
I think they are they OEM hoses that leak (how can I check) but anyways...some of the fittings are impervious to my huge biceps I was thinking of just cutting the hoses...I think if I have the OEM hoses they are worthless anyways and this would make my job alot easier... Oh BTW in case anyone is planning on doing this I thought I'd leave all the hose support brackets in...I realized that the open screw holes are a perfect place for rust to set in...so I decided to leave the rubber grommet and screws in MJ |

if the system is empty, go ahead and cut them with a hacksaw. its easy

Ya I cut mine with a whizz wheel, those fittings are a bear to break loose.
I think the red hoses are the oem hoses.

If they are barrier hoses, it will be printed on the hose.
As for hte screw holes, I cleaned them up and applied black silicon sealant to keep water and degrie out. You will save about 3lbs. by removing all the brakets and screws that hold on the AC hoes to the car.

well the hoses are plain black no writing.
to me they look OEM but who knows I'll give this thread another hour then I will start cutting hose...so if you can give me a way to tell if they are barrier vs OEM that would be appreciated...if not I will go on PBS' advice thanks for your help guys MJ |

just make sure the hose you cut is on the drivers side,, the other side i believe are oil lines.
serious now, i did take mine out whole until i got to the smaller hose up front. you really have to cut them to get them out of the smugglers box from the bottom. i still have not been able to get the condenser out of the smugglers box as of now. i have not however gone at it angry yet,, thats next

When I was removing mine, after I got the stuff out of the smuggler's box (which was a bear!) I was cleaning up the hoses. I found one extraneous hose, and I was about the cut it, when I thought "I better check to see what this really is...
...it was my fuel line. Whew!!

Is there anything aside from the AC blower in the smugglers box? I stripped the AC but sort of grew tired of the project after removing the hose connections in the smugglers box. I want to keep the AC blower as a poor man's AC system, but would like to remove anything that just takes up weight.

pbs's story is much like mine and his question is one i need answered. it would appear that it may be the condensor, or the unit that the air is run through to be cooled prior to cabin entry. i also would like to keet the fan in operation.
