Chasing WideBody - Thunderhill video
It's long overdue, there's no sound, the quality is only average and, to top it all off, it's in black and white... but here's some decent footage of me chasing Thom and his WideBody around Thunderhill back in November.
http://www.momentarylaps.com/videos/Chasing_WideBody.rm Give us a break on the lines - this is the very first session of the day. ![]() Thom - I still have some more tapes to dig through. I might have some better footage. Happy Holidays, Dean |

Great video! I wish everyone mounted their cameras there..it's a very enjoyable video to watch...it's clear, nice wide shot, and it's not bumpy.
Very cool vid of thom's machin in action.

Where do you have your camera mounted? That looks great and that track looks fun. Do you have any pics of your camera mounted in your car?
Thanks |

Thanks for posting that video Dean. I was riding shot-gun in that session, and was impressed when you caught up with us. You're quite the driver. And yes, riding in that 3.6 machine down the straights is impressive.

Beautiful headlights. I think you are driving better corners than the front car. No sound is even better with sound. The viewer can play his own music.

Nice video. Just as a reference to Thom's 3.6 pulling away in the straights what year/model/mods 911 were your driving?

That's really cool to have the black and white, and the camera up high, like that. Keeping up with Thom is no easy trick on that track. It's why all the videos are of the back end of his car.
I'm planning on going up to Thunderhill for a Friday track day on March 28th, since Nor Cal Racing will be running the track backwards (CW), that day, and the Open Track Challenge is going to be doing it the same way.

Lots of questions to answer...
First, I'm driving an 86 Euro Carrera cabriolet. Stock motor, but Kumho rubber, Bilstein sport shocks, and a very *effective* competition alignment from S-Car-Go Racing. Second, the camera is a small "bullet cam" mounted on the top of the windshield and is connected to a digital camcorder that I have mounted on my rollbar, down behind the seat, out of harms way. I got the sounds sorted out on Sunday, but unfortunately Thom was only there on Saturday. You can click the following link if you want to see similar video with sound. This is actually a wireless mic mounted on the back bumper real close to the exhaust! This video kinda stinks, though, because the bullet cam is not very good at adjusting to bright light. In this clip, the sun is right on the horizon and causes all sorts of washout/whiteout at certain turns: http://www.momentarylaps.com/videos/Laura_Chasing_Andrew.rm BTW, it's my wife driving in this clip. I'll have a color camera for next season. Jack - I LOVE T-Hill clockwise! I'm so jealous that you're heading up there. I think the track is much more interesting in the CW direction than the CCW direction. And, for the record, Thom out gunned me on the timed laps by more than a second... ![]() Dean |

That camera angle really shows the speed well. It also conveys car rotation. I can tell where you're trail braking, etc. You can really sense the cars motion.

I agree, Tyson. The one thing I don't like is that I can't seem my hands. I've learned alot from watching my hands and how I move them on turn in and through a turn, like this:
http://www.momentarylaps.com/videos/dean_2-15_lap.rm Here is another camera placement that my buddy who turned me onto this bullet-cam thing uses. The camera is mounted on his hood! http://www.momentarylaps.com/videos/Clip29_Dzl.rm Whadda ya think? Dean |
