I've got Wayne's book and want to tackle re-keying my passenger side door to match the driver side over the holiday. I don't have a key for the passenger side and don't quite look like a gentleman making my girlfriend stand outside while I 'appear' to let myself in first! Anyway, where does one purchase the tumbler re-keying kit Wayne refers to do the job?

i removed my tumblers and gave the local locksmith my ignition key. they re-keyed both tumblers for $35. now i have a key system vs my previous mismatching system. it was cheap enough to have somebody else do it so i could tend to other "things".

Take the lock apart and play around with the existing tumblers to get the best fit, then grab a file and file the remaining ones flush (with the key in) with the barrel
Cheers Jakes

the "kit" doesn't exist, don't ask how i know
![]() i had the same problem and bought a new lock and key matching the chasis no.s when i took out the old lock and cleaned it up it worked fine!! i have a new unused lock now! may work for you - don't assume you need a new lock, take apart and have a look first - its pretty easy.

I brought mine to a locksmith too. He rekeyed one side for $25.
Dickster, I have seen a "kit" of various size pins for rekeying. I couldn't find it here though. It was a lot more than $25. Frank |

Thanks guys,
Sounds like I need to leave the actual 'locksmithing' to a locksmith. I'll open it up and take a look myself first to see if the suggestions that it may just need to be cleaned, re-set will work for me. ![]() Ryan

One way you can do it is to re-key the tumbler in question but remove any of the pins that dont 'fit'. This way you will have one lock with less pins but it will work with the same key. It may, however, make that lock less secure!?
