SC injector and sleeve replacement
 

81 911 sc... can the air tubes ( manifolds ) be removed from the air box for sleeve and injector removal while leaving the CIS in the car my sleeves are brittle and pieces coming off the top so the injector will not clip and secure back in place

Not really, maybe the drivers side if you take almost everything else off. Better off to drop the engine either partially or fully, and remove the entire system.

I just did this. The issue is that some of the short rubber hoses have their clamp screws facing forward and you can't get to them without air box coming out. I did this with the engine in. It was not too bad. I started with the right forward most runner. It's the hardest to get to but with a 12mm socket and a 1/4" drive it's accessible but blind. I also used wobble extensions and an open end wrench in places.
So while your there, plenty of other things to replace too. ��

Injector removal is fairly easy. Sleeve removal is more complicated. Even if you get the air tubes off, you still have to deal with the possibility of pieces of the sleeve breaking off and dropping into the engine. I took my engine out, then it's easy to take the entire CIS off in one piece and replace the sleeves

Speaking of this, I am also doing the same thing, but with CIS on my bench. I turned a steel shaft to fit in the insulator from the bottom with a shoulder on it. I see the 3 punches at the top , and will replace all parts so don't need to save them. Can I just tap away on said tool and drive them out, or do I need to disturb the 3 punches first, if so how?

I think you need to carefully grind those three detents off with a Dremel. I suppose you could try to bash the old sleeve past them when removing, but you'll still have to grind them off so you don't damage the new sleeves during installation.

yes this can all be done with CIS in the car. its a nice after noon job .

1. pop the injectors out
2. with a dremmel and a vacuum grind of the detents.
3. pull out sleeves and o rings ( I think i used a big easy out to grab them and they popped right out )
4. reinstall new sleeves and orings.
5. use small chisel or flat blade and hammer to "peen " a couple spots to keep new sleeves in place.
6. install injectors with new orings.
