Recommendation for A/C service in SF Bay Area

My `87 Carrera A/C has not been charged in years. Everything is intact and works but blows barely cool. All original, nothing updated other than the Kuehl vent in the cabin I added years ago.

I may look at upgrading or converting but figure it's worth charging it once to see how it works. Don't need air conditioning in the Bay Area often so it's never been a big priority.

Thanks,
jw

Just spoke with Pacific Power Motorsport (Eric is the guy) in WC about this. I'm bringing him an 88 911 cabriolet on the 20th, but mine is R134. R12 can be in short supply, but I'm sure he'll be able to tell you quickly if he can, and if not, who can. (925) 937-2277

Since you know the refrigerant will leak out, you have 3 options:

A) If the car is R12 you are going to spend quite a few bucks putting in R12 and watching degrade down to zero in a day, a week or month.

B) If the car is R134a converted, you are going to spend some fewer bucks .... .ditto.

C) If you are going to keep the car for a few years, take a proactive approach: o-rings, barrier hoses, new drier, pressure switch. Have the system evacuated, charged, tested and electronically sniff every joint and component and fix what needs to be fixed.

Financially, you are wiser to fix the issues rather than watch the refrigerant and labor rise to the atmosphere.

Probably not convenient for you however the guys are A&C in San Rafael are top-notch no nonsense fix it the correct way guys.

They repaired a couple of leaks and re-charged the AC on my SC and made it more than usable during the dog days (word used lightly) in the North Bay.
