Help me pick a color...'72 T

My '72T is a few months away from paint and I'm trying to pick a color. The car was originally Sepia Brown. The original plan was to stick with that color. However, looking at the body in primer over the weekend I just can't see me being happy with it. Don't get me wrong, I like brown. I have a '76 911S in brown now. I just think I would like the long hood in another color. Yes, I know resale prices mandate original colors. However, I don't see myself selling this one and I want to really like the color

So, what exterior/interior color combinations would you recommend?

The only stipulation is that the color must be a traditional air cooled Porsche color (356 through 993). The color also cannot be dark (black or other very dark colors). I'm partial to Mexico blue or similar shades but am open to others.

Please post a picture of your recommendation on a longhood 911. I'm a visual person and need to see it.

Thank you

It's ultimately up to you and what you like, color wise. If it was me and knowing what these cars are worth, and what they will be worth in the years to come, stick with stock. Now, if it was 15 years ago, blue.

Guards red gets my vote for brighter colors, but there's a stipulation. Personally I think it only works well on narrow fender cars if you also run the straight style door decals.

If the for decals are not an option then I'd have to say silver. It just suits narrow body long hoods for some reason. Clean and simple and elegant.

Mexico blue sounds like a great option!. Another cool one would be Fashion Grey since you dont want a dark color.

I agree about future value. However, I don't think I would be happy seeing brown every time I walked into the garage.

Signal Yellow, Tangerine or Signal Green are some of the best OE colors and look great on an early 911.

Leaf Green or Robins egg blue (not sure if they are 72 colors)..........Yes value might be affected by not having the original color but if it is done is a proper Porsche color for that year I don't see it hitting the bottom line as much.

Since you care (at least a bit) what people think-- what age are you? I love the bright colours but am now 50 so I'd look less like a mid-life-crisis in silver or Irish Green. Those are also both desirable colours (I've heard.)

There are a lot of neat colors out there, but I would say keep it original and sell for the color you want. The next person who buys it with the original color would appreciate it not having a color change. But if you don't care, then do some simple searches and you will find the right color for you.

Go with Viper Green(I think that is what it is called) and make a statement.

I've searched a lot. However, there is a plethora of color choices out there. I've seen threads like this in the past conclude successfully because people post pictures of their cars (or pictures they have taken) that you won't see doing a google search

I'm 53. My first Porsche was a 993C4S in Turquoise Blue. The car sat unsold for months because (in 2002) you couldn't give away "jellybean" colors. I love the oddball colors.

I love that color. I already have two green 914's (Zambezi and Irish) so am leaning towards blue.

I've looked online at mexico, gulf, turquoise, albert and some others. Most google pictures aren't that great. I'm hoping someone will post a picture of a color (blue, green, etc.) that strikes me as "the one"

Any one of the factory yellow, blue, orange, or green would look good.

Signal orange in my personal fav.

Metallic blue and Gemini Blue are both great for metallic colors. For non-metallic I love the bright colors: tangerine, viper, signal yellow, acid blue, Mexico blue, early gulf blue, also slate gray is awesome. I'm not a fan of greens (except viper) and while I like bahia red, the other colors I mentioned float my boat higher.

I would be perfectly happy with brown - it respects the era in which the car was built, and you are not "Fighting the factory finish" which to me is always a no-no.

The doo-doo brown is period cool, but I know we'd always planned on painting it Tangerine if we didn't stick with the brown.

Definitely Tangerine, especially the '72 shade. Blood orange I believe.

I would paint it Brown and wrap it whatever color I wanted it to be.
