My Steve Wong Chip Story

Just going to add my feedback to the multitude of Steve Wong chip stories on here. Bought my 3.2 in October, and in that time I've put almost 10k miles on the beast. So far she runs like a top. The driving experience is matchless, but I was kind of tired of getting pulled from stoplights by Nissans without revving in first gear to infinity.

Don't get me wrong, I love revving the engine, but revving in first just isn't as fun as 2nd or 3rd.

Anyway I pulled the trigger on Steve's chip last week. In preparation, I wanted to take care of some maintenance items before I put in the chip, so I changed the cap and rotor, and all the spark plugs, and the engine air filter - there's another thread dedicated to my escapades on that one.

Anyway, I had a few minor hiccups. Either my DME/DME Relay was failing or I didn't seat the chip right, or reconnect the ECU well, but at a specific temperature my car started stalling. I immediately got on the phone with Steve and he was extremely helpful. He was perfectly happy to chat with me and give me his feedback on what he thought the issue was.

I also posted my sad story on here, and long story short, the community here, especially DRACO and a few others were wonderful on giving pointers and feedback. I took it all apart, put it back together and replaced the DME relay with a good German one, and now I have no problems.

Chip works as well as advertised, it's MUCH more comfortable pulling away from lights and in the mid-revs, and just feels much better between 60-80 mph, and even better as you start climbing into the revs. It seems to idle more solidly and rev more eagerly, though some of that may be the new cap and rotor and plugs as well.

Only thing that pisses me off about the chip is that I didn't get it sooner.

I waited four years to purchase a SW chip and wish I'd done it sooner. The difference in mid-range is incredibly noticeable.
