Mitch Leland bushing installation problem
Hi. I have some play in the steering column on my 69 912. I bought the Mitch Leland bushing, and I bought the steering shaft spring which was missing entirely. The problem I have now is that with the bushing installed, I don't have quite enough steering shaft threads through the wheel to accept the spring washer and the nut. Note I'm using a Moto Lita wheel. If I leave the washer off, I can get the nut threaded and tightened, but I'm not sure that's a safe solution. (This does solve the play in the steering column, however.).
The spring washer is pretty thick -- definitely too thick to deform by hand, even if I hold it with pliers. Would a very thin, flexible spring washer do the job? I also thought about drilling the shaft and the nut and safety wiring the nut in place, but I can't get a drill in there. What say the experts? Thanks! Steve |
Steve,
I'm sure Mitch will answer, excellent customer support! There's a thread about his steering wheel bushing, maybe post your question there too for some more feedback. It's a lengthy thread so maybe you an already find some useful info. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/480462-mitch-lelands-steering-wheel-bushing.html |
Steve,
I installed Mitch's bushing and it worked perfectly. If you have an issue first try contacting Mitch directly. Although it was a weekend I'm sure he will get back to you. |
I thought the Mitch Leland bushings were for 74-89 911's only
