Front Strut / Brake-line Bracket
My newly new & refurbished front RSR strut's... fresh Bilstein-yellow paint are seemingly w/o a brake line bracket, where the flexible line couple's with the solid line.. the green oem have such a "tab" what to do?
btw I did do a search and read every page of '78 SC Elephant Racing Suspension Rebuild .. it's a good read..

I think RSR Strut Casings had a Brake Hose Bracket as which was relocated as shown below
![]() On a Race/Rally car I would cut a slot in the bracket so that the brake caliper can be removed without having to bleed brakes as this would speed up strut replacement. It is also interesting to see the cranked steering arm which would reduce bump steer without the need for either rack spacers or the 'leggy' adjustable bump steer kits. We spent years modifying Escort Mk1 and 2 struts in this manner as when the rack mounts were lowered to avoid contact with the sump of the engine the resulting toe change was dramatic. Bending the forged arm needs some care and we used to paint the forging with Berkatekt to prevent oxidation and then bend in a jig. We have just ordered some honed cylinders which have been thread rolled so we can modify standard struts rather than weld on collars. We used to fit the brake hose bracket to an Escort strut in a completely different location. ![]() Many people used a jubilee clamp to hold a bracket to the strut leg but we always thought that this was a little on the crude side of things. Thanks chris_seven,
" jubilee clamp ." ? Is that British for "hose clamp" I was thinking of using a hose clamp but there are some dangers if the clamp splits - - of cutting the hose... its a 'maybe', but it's something to worry about.

Agreed you can use a suitably shaped L-bracket with a hole thru it to accept the hose union, secured with a clamp. If typical hose clamps bother you? Use a split shaft collar, which are not cheap in large sizes. For example, a 2.5 inch diameter (i'm guessing at the diameter of the strut tube) zinc plated steel collar is around $50 at an industrial supply warehouse.
