Clear PlastiDip temporary bra

Going on a road trip and thought about a a quick, clear Plastidip for the front valence and maybe bumper.....maybe the stuff can go over the fog lights even the headlights as I don't plan to drive at night.
Then afterwards just peel it off.

Any thoughts.

I use it on daily driver my wheels in the winter and then spray wash it off (need to be pretty aggressive with the spray wash if you chose not to peal it by hand.)

Oh, and it is easier to peel if it goes on relatively thick rather than thin.

I'd test it in a small area first to see what you are up against.

When Plastidip was extremely popular I could have retired on all the refinishing jobs that were coming in from the Plastidip peeling off the substrate.

It was especially popular in the Subaru crowd, and Pastidip was cutting checks to keep the negative publicity off the major forums.

That was awhile ago; maybe they have changed the formula since then or the owners were applying it wrong. Either way I would never use the stuff on a painted surface. I'm sure there are plenty of people who have have grand results though.

It's also way too soft to really provide much protection against bugs and rocks.

I've used the clear plastidip as a temp clear bra. It's definitely not at tough as real clear bra, or as long lasting, but 100% worth using before a trip.

The way I look at it is, it would be silly not to use one $10 can to protect your paint for the road trip.

Has anyone used the 3M product? I am going to test it out, and according to the YouTube vids, it looks like it holds and protects well.

Very cool, thanks NENE..........I just saw this vid with a 3M tech showing how its done.

https://youtu.be/CsAnFcBqo7k

I think I will go with this, what with the special release agent wax , the vid shows how its meant to protect against gravel, sand and bugs. At least minimize damage from gravel and rocks. cant go wrong with a layer on the valence at least.
In another vid the host says its better than Plastidip, I like the special wax to make removal easier .

I used it as a clear bra on my 997 about a year ago. It went on well but I ended up with a couple of runs on the vertical surfaces due to my impatience when spraying. Then when I eventually tried to remove it, it was very difficult to peel off. It probably took an hour, although I had not heard of the special wax. I'd definitely use it again if I knew that it was easier to remove, as it's quick, inexpensive, and looks good.

I would imagine with the special wax it is easier to peel off. I will give it a try!

Watched a few videos of people removing the 3M product. Basically it seems like you need to remove it after a short while. Long-term usage (6 months +) results in a major PIA to get it to come off the car cleanly.
