slight scratching in steering column after bump steer kit install
Hi,
I know I read another thread somewhere in here that someone else had this come up, but can't find the thread now so have to ask. I have the car at ~+ euro height and decided to install the bump steer washer kit from Pelican (the $14 version). Installed according to instructions, and Wayne's book, including loosening the nut on the shaft to provide play. I've actually had this scratching sound before in the steering column, years ago, and can't remember exactly what i did (installed a new washer or something). For the people that have had this one, what needed to be done to get rid of it? Thanks, cw

It is your horn pad copper ring, it is worn down to the plastic mold which is rubbing against your wiper/horn contact assembly
![]() ![]() Lube or polishing the contact will cure it for about a week, but the ring is worn down. Needs to be replaced.

Your most welcome Brother!
Just remember to remove the the horn round fuse or disconnect the battery. Ask helper to hold the wheel or use you knees to break the nut loose. Do not use car's steering lock. Just a reminder ![]()

Draco,
I have this problem as well, what is the suggested fix for this? If the copper ring is worn is there a replacement for it? Hope you don't mind the question cwinter, Scott

That sure looks like it. Just make sure it is proper for your year and wheel if after market mod.
No need to get the switch, just polish it smooth with a dremel like tool to get rid of any burs.
