The knob or the shifter stick?

If original, it is held on by a crush sleeve. You have to use a open box wrench, a mallet and firmly hit up on it and it will pop off, then you will see the oem crush sleeve.

If epoxied, that is another story.

Yes, the direction you are going with this is unclear. Do you want the knob on or off, or otherwise what do you mean by the 'shifter'?

The crush sleeve that held the knob on needs to be replaced when you reinstall the knob, but aftermarket ones do not hold as well as the original. I would not epoxy it on, though.

The shifter is held in the base fitting by some sort of cement. Probably epoxy. It easily removed by applying heat. I used a hand held map gas torch and it came loose in about 15 seconds. Some people tack weld them, but if you ever want to get it back out (I've tried a number of different shifter lengths) JB Weld or a similar 2-part works fine.

I tack welded mine. I am not going to trust any glue here. It already broke once when quite new!!! I have never figured out why the factory glued them.

Not sure why you would not weld it. You can still change the length anytime if it is welded.
