Turbo Tie Rod Boot Placement

Okay, over the next few days I've got a few projects in mind for the car. Yesterday was Pedal Cluster rebuild and Turbo Tie Rod installation. Used the 101 Projects handbook for guidance.

I had a little problem with the removal of the dreaded clutch pin! My first removal attempt was with using the drill-it-out method. Broke the first two bits I tried, then got nowhere fast. Decided I'd try hammering it out anyway. I set the cluster on the vice with a small socket - maybe 5mm - just under the far side of the pin. Used a ball-peen hammer and it slid right out! Should have tried this first anyway.. Rebuild and reassembly was straightforward, except for that allen socket head bolt just behind the clutch pedal. This took a good 30 minutes to reinstall.

Turbo Tie Rod install went well. Didn't have the special $$$ wrench, used a chisel and hammer to loosen the spanner washer and spun the tie rods out by hand. Installed new tie rods and rubber boots, but have a question about the boot. Wayne's book has a decent picture of the obvious steering rack end of the boot with the spiral wound spring clamp, but I couldn't find anything showing the other - non-obvious- end. This is what mine looks like. This right???

Looks right from your pic. Here's a couple pics I just took of my recent install, for you to compare:

Don't mean to hijack the thread at all but wondered if you had time to look in the front trunk area of your car and see if you can describe the part in this thread

Need Help With 911 Part ID

Thanks.

Take the low $$ route - but a 36/34MM flat wrench at your local bicycle shop for around $10.00. Its very important to get your new tie rods TIGHT.

Bob,

I looked in the trunk all around the area for the hood latch. I couldn't see anything that looked like this part.

Thats what mine look like as well. BTW, how was removing the oler rods by hand? Maybe because my car is 30 years old, but it was a PITA!
