window felts

I am attempting to remove the window frame on a 72 911 coupe. I need help in removing the 2 TORX screws near the top of the door. Is there a play by play on doing this job?

Thanks
Tom

Those are allen bolts not torx. Use a long handled allen wrench with the rounded tip for angled use.
Don't drop them into the door.

Same here!

I have done it. Think I took the whole door apart and lubed everything in there. Not too difficult.

I've installed window frames and those 2 allen bolts at the front top of the door were a little tricky. Like mentioned above you need a long allen wrench with the ball end for angled attack. Can't remember if I dropped the bolts into the door.

I think they are TORX

A ball end may not get enough grip and end up rounding out the bolt. They're 6 point from the factory and fairly tight. If you round them, it will be a challenge to reach them with any removal tool, being they're down below the surface. Use an allen socket of a proper length and be sure the tip isn't worn.

I don't think those are the ones I've been referring to. Pull back and take another pic or two to show us where they are.

I'm pointing to the area where the 2 TORX screws are
More pics of inside the door

Thanks for your help

Hmm, it's been a while since I installed my windows, but I don't think you have to remove those to get the window frame out.

He means the two in front of the upper door, under the black plugs (if the plugs are still there). Open the door to see them.

John, that's what I thought too, but doesn't seem to be where he is pointing.

Those are the ones that anchor the front of the sliding window frame to the door. The ones inside the front door holes anchor the very front of the frame. Looks to me like you need to get either an allen head to go a quarter inch ratchet (or the same torx to fit) to get these out, the long end of an allen wrench might work - maybe have to try to turn the small end with a small crescent wrench or get a small clamping plyers. Maybe a torx on a T handle would work out. You'll just have to try for whatever works. Those are normally allen head if I remember correctly.

Marv has the bolts located. I guess I can spray Kroil in there to see if I can free them up

The 2 to the front under the rubber caps I was able to get them out. did drop the flat washer down the abyss

Thanks everyone
Tom

Those look like triple square bolts to me. I had to chase down a Snap-On truck once to buy a tool so I could remove my 944 axles.

Maybe give them a whirl with whatever tool will fit, but if they're tight...they look extremely strippable.

Carefully remove the regulator.

And be very careful to not drop anything into the door lock mechanism.

Ask me how I know!!!!

Definitely not Torx bolts.

OK, I got the frame out. The 2 triple square bolts did not need to come out. They are for removing the vent window. That was a week wasted

old felts out & new installed. How do I adjust the window? I still feel some drag 3/4 of the way up

Thanks for your help

Tom

Have you tried adjusting the position of the window frame?
