Open HV Ignition Cable?

In the midst of diagnosing a no-start problem w/ my 83 SC and getting no spark off of the coil.

Put the coil on the bench and the primary/secondary sides look at least nominal..about 650ohms on the secondary.

I happened to have also pulled the coil/disti hv wire and I get -no-continuity between the two ends.

Now..Never heard of an hv wire opening up however the disti side was all corroded and I supposed that it could have exceeded current specs. I pulled a cable off of a handy vehicle and see about 25K ohms across that.

Could it really be that this wire has just opened up? That would be way too easy!

I need a sanity check!

Howard

Yes, it certainly could be that easy. In my experience, inexpensive parts fail more often than expensive ones. If that wire were not conducting electricity, then you would get no spark.

Well...Intellectually, I _knew_ that!

It's just that I've never (in 30 years of puttering)..come across an open ignition wire...

Hey, that's why I'm asking!

Well..the proof will be in the replacement

Thanks
