Whats this hose to the cabin from the intake?

Saw this pic in Randy Leffingwell's book, described as a T9 prototype, but no mention of this detail in the narrative.

It looks like there is a hose to the heating system, is that right? Ive never seen something like that before, is it intended to suck air from the cabin in certain conditions?

That hose should get hot air from the cabin (better saying from the heat exchangers) sending to carburators (via air filter box) to prevent freezing in the winter season.
There is a similar system into my euro 73 with zenith carbs

Interesting. I dont mind being called a youngster @ 40+!

That begs the question for me though...i have a 911 on webers, an fj40 on mikunos, and countless mowers, weedwackers and gokarts but I have never run into icing!? In Toronto just about everything ices at some point but never my carbs...will have to read up.
