Is there a how to remove the alternator on a 72 911? could not find anything in search

The below can get you started.

One thing that was a speed bump for me was the cast fan shroud. It has a slot in it (at least on my 81) on the bottom. That slot fits onto a peg. Seems obvious, but if you are not aware you can perform way more wrestling and head scratching than you need to.

If you are going to put in an alternator with an internal regulator you may have to do some carving up of the air diverter thingie on the "back" of the alternator to make it fit. Alternatively and more better, I think you can upgrade to a later diverter that fits the first year of the internal regulator SC. Maybe 82?

If you think that you need to replace your entire alternator, then gently tap it out of the housing with a soft hammer. The fan is pressed onto the shaft of the alternator, and needs to be gently removed. Don't bang on the alternator shaft too heavily, as this may damage the bearings inside.
When working on a Porsche, hammers need to be locked in the tool box.
