"Salvox" WUR rebuild kit ?

Hello everyone,
Just the one Salvox kit question, nut I felt like some background should be provided.

I've got an '82 SC, with an incorrect M/Y Warm up Regulator.
A friend who is very competent and owns a shop, but new to Porsche 911's, is helping me out.
Getting super, super low control pressure, will barley run.

long story short, adjust the pressure with the valve under the gauge and it runs well. As far as we can see, the WUR has to be faulty, correct ?

Whats in the car : Bosch #438 140 072
What the Bentley book says is the correct one : Bosch # 438 140 090

Regardless, an "090" is hard to find and N/A from our host.

The Salvox rebuild kit on ebay. I'm sure you've all seen it.
Anyone have any luck/experience with them ?

Whats everyone doing about WUR's ?

Thanks everyone,
Josh

We're getting around 3 bar or 45psi warm operating temp. Its close to the ideal 3.7 bar / 55 psi.

I'm not familiar with the differences between the 072 and 090 WUR, but in most cases yours can be made to work in your car. You can contact Tony (user name boyt911sc) and ask if they are interchangeable. Otherwise, the major differences may be in warm up times.

Your low warm control pressure is adjustable, you do not need a rebuild kit unless there is another issue such as failure to hold fuel pressure after shut down. I'd suggest you contact Tony and ask about your WUR--if it can be made to work, and how to adjust it. He has much hands-on experience with this issue.
The key to any CIS issue is to tackle one thing at a time. Get the fuel pressures into spec first and if that doesn't fix the problem, move to some other possibility. You are now attacking the first step so continue on until the fuel pressures are in order. BTW, it would help if you post all the pressures you've recorded so far:

System pressure

Cold control pressure

Warm control pressure

Residual pressures over ~30 minute period.

I've got a freshly rebuilt -090 sitting on the shelf if you need the correct part number.
The -072 is for an '80SC and the -090 is for an '83. Both are single diaphragm units so loosely interchangeable. You can learn more about CIS on our website 911 CIS Primer - Index
Do go into detail concerning the history of the car and your problem so we know for sure it is WUR related.

Josh,

I could lend you a WUR-090 (tested, calibrated, and newly rebuilt) that you could use and install on your car. You are not buying but borrowing a good WUR to help you do your CIS troubleshooting. Send it back to me when you are done. I would even assist you and your friend in diagnosing the problems. But you have to decide soon because I will be leaving for CA in 3 days. BTW, 45 psi. for WCP is well below from spec. (49 - 55 psi.). Good luck.

Tony

Thanks everyone,

Yes, I really should have given you more pressure numbers, I know. Sorry about the vagueness with the post.

We spend time with the car most Saturdays, unfortunately the family and I are leaving for a while on vacation.
I'll try to get you guys better #'s in a few weeks, I really should have gotten my facts together first, I just thought someone would have some insight on that kit. (strange it doesn't include the spring for the bi- metal arm ?)

There's a whole story here that started out with the car running 70 psi WOT. But I'll wait for more info before I go to far here and waste peoples time.

Many thanks Tony and company,
Josh

Rebuild is useless if you don't replace the bimetallic strip and heater element. That is the functional portion of the WUR and the part that fails with time. Adjusting the various plugs and positions of diaphragms out of spec is a Band-Aid. It'll work for a while but not optimal.

Understood RarlyL8, I sort of figured that was the case.
You mentioned an 090, so it's completely rebuilt ? And how much would you take for it ?
Partsklassic has an 090, but not sure if they'd take a 072 for a core. Emailed them, no response yet.
