1967 911 Motor Running Rebuilt by Motor Meister

I bought this 1967 911 last week, the previous owner told me it had a rebuilt motor with only 32 miles on it before I got there which really got me excited. So I get there and we get talking about the motor which looks fantastic and then he pulls out the receipt and it was done by MM. My heart sank a little bit because of MM reputation and the fact the car hadn't been run for several years so we really didn't want to start it. So anyway I bought it, got it home, cleaned out the carbs flushed the gas and got it running. Surprisingly it sounds good and it pulled pretty hard to 4000 rpms on a short drive, I didn't want to rev it any more due to the low miles but I think it may be a good rebuild. There is no smoke and no leaks. The motor was actually done in 2005, I'm hoping they were doing a little better work then? Here is a short youtube video of it running which is music to my ears.

Great find!

If it's not a numbers matching engine I'd say drive the hell out of it until it dies. If numbers matching I would rebuild immediately; don't want to run the risk of perforating the case due to bad parts/workmanship

Probably want to get the bay-to-tin gasket in there. Most likely requires a drop though. With carbs, couple hour job to drop it.

Personally I'd want to know what was actually inside, heaps of horror stories of MM "rebuilding" with junk parts.

as long as you have good oil pressure, and it has good compression, drive the hell out of it. It's really no different than buying a car with no history. Just because it was built by motor scheister, should not mean it's a junk motor.

That's basically what I said before he bought it. Not every MM engine is bad. Drive it and find out.

If MotorMeister majorly screwed up 25 percent of their rebuilds they wouldn't have lasted a week. But screwing up a smaller percentage and then not standing behind the work is a trainwreck that will ruin a company's reputation.

This car doesn't have one of the common complaints which is not getting all the engine back and not in running order. Obviously it is all there and it is running. They may not have delivered the correct parts that were payed for (another common complaint) but that wouldn't be an issue for you unless they are telling you that it has some specific internals that are swaying your desire for the car.

This screams for a high quality Pre Purchase Inspection (even though you are past that point.). I would want an oil analysis on it too. If it is good then the car is probably good but it will help you decide how to procede.

In Az you def need the sealing rubbers around the motor...you should not be able to see thru your compartment. The fan will not be getting the forced air it needs to cool your heads.'I'm in Wickenburg btw.
