Best 911 Books
You guys have any good book suggestions? With my beloved air-cooled beauties moving farther and farther out of reach, I figured i could at least add to my book collection and continue to day dream. Back in 08 i had the option to buy an 86 targa with rebuilt motor, fill SS exhaust for the princely some of 16K... naturally i said no and bought a base Boxster
Boxster is no mas, 911 desire still as strong as ever. I have been searching for books mostly focused on the aircooled era that also provide some insight into development and model year changes. Would like to spend less than 100 bucks which rules out some obvious choices. Here is what i currently have: Porsche 911 Buyers Guide - not very good or informative. My edition incorrectly listed 930/965s as having DME engine management The Gold Plated Porsche - I liked the background stories included with his trials and tribulations with restoring his car. 101 Projects - Slickly produced with lots of great information. 911 Performance Handbook - Very technical but also very interesting. the pics of 962 motors stuffed into 911s was worth the price of admission for me : ) Here are some options that i found: Hans Mezger Book -way outside of my price range but has great reviews The 911 Story - Frere - Heard this is a great book to have. Would be looking at 2nd to last edition Excellence Was Expected - The bible when it comes to these cars.

Sometimes I like the look of a 911 book, crack it open to enjoy the section on the 911SC and find it hasn't been mentioned. Argh, back on the bookshop's shelf it goes.

Find yourself an unloved perfectly clean SC Bently Manual then buy your car and proceed to get it filthy and full of greasy fingerprints, on every page!

Porsche - by Dennis Adler is a good overview of the complete history. Especially meaningful since I had visited the family home at Zell Am See and the museum at Gmund the year before.
A complete wast of time: The Porsche Quiz Book 100 Questions on the History of Porsche by Chris Cowlin

Thanks for the replies guys! I am going to check out some of these suggestions. With being said, betterair's suggestion seems like the most logical choice......
Have a happy 4th everyone.

I found this book less than useful. I'm willing to part with it at a good price, though.
