It’s Almost July 4th, Meaning It’s Road Trip Time!
They say that the total distance travelled by road this July 4th weekend will be the most in American history. Chances are you probably have a road trip of your own planned. If that’s the case, we’d love to hear about it. What’s the destination? How far are you driving? Do you plan on taking the fastest route there, or the most scenic? Finally, what maintenance are you doing in preparation for this trip?

We (my wife rode with me) just finished a 5,400 mile road trip. Oklahoma City to all the New England States. We made it to Bar Harbor, then headed back west to Jay Peak, VT for a week. We stopped at places like Fort Knox, Main, Plymouth Rock, Manassas,Lexington, VA, and even the Biltmore Estate on the way up. Not in that order and a LOT more places were visited. My 911 now has 165,000 miles. It has been driven to California three times, the east cost twice, to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. And one trip into Canada.

I am driving from Chicago to Sayner, WI, a little town in the north woods near Minoqua (sp?) and the UP. It's a minimum 7-hour drive, and I want to take a route that is more interesting than the direct route, but not overly time-consuming.
Car prep is a set of new tires, oil change, clutch adjustment, lube steering U-joints and that's about it. I am cramming a bike in there!

@GH85Carrera - That's really impressive! Of all the road trips you've taken around the country, which routes were your top highlights?
@Otter74 - that sounds blissful! wishing you a good trip! |

The trip back in 2000 when we drove out to Sacramento for Porsche Parade was one. We visited 11 national parks on the way out.
Salt Lake City, Porsche Parade was fun with visits to Dinosaur National park in Utah and the one in Colorado. I have driven to Porsche Parade in: Miami, OK Sacramento, CA Fort Worth, TX Hershey, PA San Diego, CA Charlotte, NC Keystone, CO St. Charles, IL Savannah, GA Salt Lake City, UT Traverse City, MI Monterey, CA French Lick, IL Jay Peak, Vt For the Portland Parade we flew out and rented a car. That was not near as much fun so I drive to Parade now. The cool part of each trip is visiting a part of the county I would never have visited otherwise. I have also driven my 911 on the track for the DE at: Laguna Secca, Roebling Road, Charlotte Motor Speedway, Texas Motor Speedway, and Hallett, Oklahoma track.
