Spot on. Jim is working on a solution to the unfused hot circuit problem. Until resolved I carry 4 element fire extinguishers within easy reach

I don't know enough about burning metals to know what happens, but in any case I thought water would just increase the fire.

Who is able to explain this?

We used to burn VW engine cases in a barrel of water @ Glamis CA every year. The light is so intense you can't look at it. Everyone thought it was aliens.

Why; water is 33% oxygen (H2O)

To further „fuel the fire“ attached some car fire statistics from a German Insurance Association from 1999. Unfortunately early 911`s are by far leading the statistics. In the spreadsheet „911T“ covers the early models up to 1973.

The statistic is based on small numbers for the early cars only, so this might overstate the risk somehow. Anyway guess it shows a trend that the older the car the higher the risk of a fire. The report also gives numbers for major fire sources (not specific for Porsche but all insured cars):

Sources of car fires
27% Engine and/or Carburetors
26% Heating system and ignition system
18% Cable and radio equipment
29% Exhaust system

Only ca. 2-3% of fires originate form accidents:

Source of fire following accident
31% damaged gas tank or fuel lines
47% engine fire
21% fire from other car

I left out a really important thank you. Dennis Powell (Timmy2) for the great wiring harnesses that he did for me. Almost every wire in the car is new from Dennis. Custom body and engine harnesses that are perfect. So, thanks Dennis for all your good work for me and others in this community.
