Broken rocker or something worse?

How badly did I break my engine?

Was passing a car on the highway, took it a little into the redline but not much farther, and then started "clicking" or "tapping" a little under throttle. I thought it was maybe a broken exhaust flange or something as the car was still driving fine. After a few exits the sound got worse and by the time I pulled over it had a pretty bad knocking sound at idle. No smoke or oil, and the car still drive but was underpowered.
I know it could be a lot of things and this is a fairly pointless thread, but being that it's a holiday and I cannot get the car into a shop to find out how bad it actually is, I'm hoping some people can give me some hope that I didn't bend my valves and have to rebuild or replace this engine for the 2nd time
3.0 euro SC engine with the big ports but lower compression.

Doesn't cost anything to jack it up, pull the valve covers, and take a peek at the rockers.

Would love to do that but I'm 3 hours from my garage and the car is sitting in a random persons driveway until I can get a tow truck tomorrow.

Those motors are known to have valve spring failures and broken head studs.

Good idea parking it until you or your mechanic can determine the cause.

Good luck.

Hopefully this is all that happened

Any obvious new oil leaks?

Did it sound like this?

This is what I found when I opened my lower valve cover

Good excuse for me to upgrade my 3.2 to 964 Cams, in progress

that's what I thought of.
I had a shaft come out. exhaust is worse than intake.
seems like it is always the exhaust though.
it is VERY loud
