Help! Door pocket loose

So I noticed the Plastic Mount For Door Pocket is not screwing into the door tightly. The thread is probably damaged and while it hold the piece ok once I screw it in, by the time I mount the door pocket and open and close the door its completely loose again. really annoying

any suggestion on how to fix this? I never re-threaded before, not sure what to do

thanks

Pretty sure that has a counter on the other side of the panel. You have to take the card off to fix.

+1^^^

Get a new one or a wider threaded screw, they are basic panel screws in metric size, of course :-)

I would get some epoxy into the original hole and then retread it. You can buy syringes with blunt needles on Amazonand use them to fill the original hole.

That piece is held to the door shell (sheet metal) with a tapping screw. Over repeated removal cycles or someone ham fisted over tightens the sheet metal strips.

Easiest fix is to go up one size in sheet metal screw. No need to remove the whole door panel, just the lower pocket.

These should be an oval head sheet screw, black oxide coated.

Auveco makes a suitable replacement. #8 is the closest to original. If yours is really damaged try a #10.
They also make screws that are oversize but with smaller head, i.e. #10 with a #8 head.

Just FYI the bottom 3 screws for the pocket DO use M4 machine screws which go into a threaded insert in the door shell.
These are often messed up as well or have a regular sheet metal screw (or dry wall screw) threaded into them.

Good luck with your fix.

thanks Cooper. I will try to get the bigger size screw and see if that will do the trick.

would you happen to have the link to the #10 screw? I thought I would try my local ace hardware first
