911 SC Cabriolet Registry - almost at 10%
I'm only a few cars (8) away from having 10% of the 1781 US/CA 911 SC Cabriolets in the registry. If you or someone you know has an 83 SC Cabriolet and haven't registered, it would be great if you would help me reach this milestone.
Complete details on what information I'm collecting are here: Adding a Cabriolet to the Registry | 911SC Cabriolet Registry But, I really would appreciate a VIN, paint and interior colors and month/year of manufacturing. The VIN and manufacture date are both on the driver door jamb - the 4"x1" aluminum label. With the registered Cabriolets collected so far, there is lots of interesting information to share: Earliest build date: 11/82 - VIN: WP0EA0911DS170070 a Canadian delivery car Latest build date: 7/83 - VIN: WP0EA0915DS171612 (originally owned by ZZ Top drummer) Frank Beard Coincidentally, both of the above are slant-nose conversions. First VIN in registry: WP0EA0913DS170068 a Canadian car Last VIN in registry: WP0EA0916DS171781 I also have narrowed down the range of cars and month when Porsche changed from the SC-style engine case with the round oil sump cover to the "new style" Carrera case: last SC engine case: WP0EA0917DS170574 first Carrera engine case: WP0EA0911DS170618 That's a range of 44 cars, we're getting closer to the transition point! Both of these cars have a 3/83 build date so we also now know that the changeover happened in March. I do have 10 cars in the registry between these but unfortunately don't know what style engine case they have. The first 3 production Cabs (68, 69, 70) were delivered to Canada. Two of our siblings have been parted out, a third (which is actually up for sale now) was in a garage fire and is likely going to be parted out rather than restored. And here is a breakdown of colors where I can verify the actual color code: Guards Red (027) 52 cars Grand Prix White (908) 25 cars Black (700) 27 cars Slate Blue Metallic (661) 8 cars Ruby Red Metallic (810) 5 cars Light Bronze Metallic (966) 3 cars Moss Green Metallic (20C) 3 cars Quartz Gray Metallic (662) 3 cars Chiffon (182) 3 cars Pewter Metallic (655) 2 cars And where are these Cabriolets located? Here's some info on that: Canada 9 Alabama 1 Arizona 5 California 41 Colorado 5 Connecticut 7 Florida 11 Georgia 4 Illinois 5 Indiana 3 Kansas 1 Kentucky 1 Maryland 2 Massachusetts 1 Michigan 2 Missouri 2 Nevada 4 New Jersey 5 New York 5 North Carolina 2 Ohio 2 Oklahoma 1 Oregon 1 Pennsylvania 4 Rhode Island 1 South Carolina 2 Tennessee 5 Texas 2 Utah 2 Virginia 3 Washington 5 So if you have or have ever had a 911 SC Cabriolet, send me your registry information and join the fun! I'm finalizing a design for a registry window decal and will send all US/Canadian registry members a FREE decal as an appreciation. The decals should be done by the end of the summer. And of course I'm collecting information on ROW Cabriolets too, it's just more difficult to get information on these. Most in the registry are actually located in the US and Canada. Cheers, Michael |
Coolio!

Good stuff! I am one of the two black Cabs in Ohio!
|
Hey Vance, I know you registered but I am not 100% which car is yours. Can you PM or email me here or there to verify, But of the 2 Cabs in OH at last sighting, the one was sold and shipped to a new owner in Europe last year.
It is cool to know where our Cabriolets are, when I drive through other states I always check to see if there are any to keep an eye out for! Cheers, Michael |
Ok, I need ONE more US/CA Cabriolet to reach the 10% milestone! Who's got an 83 SC Cabriolet to help reach this milestone?
Cheers, Michael |
My father in law has one. Ill see if I can get him to contact you.

awesome, thanks!

Hey guys from OH - I have 2 black Cabriolets from Ohio listed in the registry but these are "last sighting" locations. One of them has been shipped to Europe so one of your cars is not in the registry and since I know that wolds car is, it just be vesnyder's! That would be the magic 178th car that would reach the 10% milestone! How about registering that car please?
Cheers, Michael PS in fact, there is only one Cabriolet in the registry known to be in OH and it is black. So any other Ohio Cabriolet owners should help populate the registry. I know they are out there, I grew up in Enon, OH and recall seeing a few red and white ones in the mid-late 80s! |
Mine is on there right? Mike Z
|
I can check - first did you register on the site and what's your user name? Or, PM me the VIN and I'll check (or add it if not!).
|
End of VIN is 151613, 83 cab. I MAY have been an early registrant.
|
Yes, it's in the ROW registry, white!
Cheers, Michael |
This thread brings much pain to me. My beloved 1983 Guards Red Cab was T-Boned by an unlicensed & uninsured motorist. Police put him at 100% at fault. He still tried to sue me (didn't go very far with that)
I'll get you to 10% Cab documentation |
That's horrible RNajarian. Hopefully no one was hurt. Did this happen recently? I'd still like to capture the VIN and any other info for the registry so there is a record of what happened. Did the car get parted out?
Best regards, Michael |
Fortunately no injuries. Any usable part of the car remains in storage at my house to be used for my 1975S
I will PM you the info for the registry |
10% Milestone Reached for US/CAN Registry!
Thanks all who contributed, we now have 183/1781 of the US and Canadian 1983 911 SC Cabriolets in the registry - that's 10.3%, passing the 10% milestone. There are still lots of 83 Cabs out there and I won't stop until we find them all!

From my research when I bought my car (0070), 1st Production car (0061) was a US car that was still on the road in May 2010. Here is what I got from Carfax: WP0EA0910DS170061, # 1 Cab: On the road in California, 5 Records (Mar 91-May 2010) From the Freebee on CarFax: Car WP0EA0911DS170070 17 Records (+5 since: License renewal and garage visit) Car WP0EA0915DS170069 23 Records Car WP0EA0913DS170068 8 Records Car WP0EA0911DS170067 20 Records Car WP0EA0911DS170066 No Record founds, nothing close Car WP0EA0911DS170065 No Record founds, nothing close Car WP0EA0916DS170064 14 Records Car WP0EA0914DS170063 9 Records Car WP0EA0912DS170062 8 Records Car WP0EA0910DS170061 5 Records Cheers JJ |
Thanks JJ - I actually have this in the registry - you told me about it last year. But, I do need to edit the "first 3 production cabs were delivered to Canada" - I keep forgetting about 61, 62, 63, 63 and 67! I'll fix that in the post above and on the Registry. Thanks!

I just run a freebee for WP0EA0910DS170061 and it now has 9 Records, 4 more than the full VIN check I did back in 2010.
I'm guessing this car (Production #1) is still on the road probably somewhere in California. |
