Could be the "four-wheel drive, 911-engined model" Ferdinand Porsche is quoted as bragging about back in 1972.

At least, that's what my Cayenne brochure keeps pointing out.

Hi Curt, Great photo of the rare "Wolfgang Von Stupp" car. Old Wolfie, was a monied German aristocrat, but being a product of years of in-breeding, He had six toes and six fingers, and with six being his favorite number, he had the Factory Special Wishes Dept. whip up his six wheeled 906. If you look real close at the photo, under the rear "Perspex" window, there is a platter of Pheasant under Glass, Wolfie would do a number of laps at "The Ring" and then retire to the pits where he and the crew would enjoy the platter. Another look at the photo will show that Wolfie did not get the center-lock wheels that he had specified for the car, seems that another racer (Our Gracious Host) Wayne had the bought all the remaining stock of factory center-lock wheels and hubs. Another amazing piece of Porsche History!!!!!!

This must have been the factory's first way of making room for the flat-12.

The 906LH was actually a bizarre looking machine even without the 'extra' wheels. Here's the unretouched photo:

Now I see why you were tempted to add more rear wheels!!
