fuel delivery problem?

'86 3.2 coupe , bone stock.

After sitting for a week, car would spin but not fire. After much cranking she fired up, idled fine , pulled as normal and restarted as necessary.

yesterday, it cranked a little bit longer than normal but fired up and worked normally.

Today, started after a long crank, stumbled and stalled, restarted and quit just down the street.

After about Any ideas and inputs appreciated

Have you replaced the relay for the DME?

When was the last time the fuel filter has been changed?

Do you smell unburnt fuel at the tail pipe?

DME relay almost new.

Fuel filter, CHT replaced about 35k miles ago.

Don't fuel filter problems show up when engine is hot? This problem gets better as the engine gets warmer.

Car pulls really good and seems to be getting plenty of fuel

Could be the SHT sensor I guess

Which brand of relay did you install?

You should have a back up relay in any case.

Yes, on the fuel filter but 35K is a while back, is it a daily or weekend queen?

OHM the chts and make sure that is in good shape while you are there.

if it pulls good its not the filter. a filter would cause it to starve under a load when it needs a lot of fuel.

if it has a check valve I would look into that first.
i think this would be less likely but the pump should run when cranking, check that. (the reason i think this is less likely is that it did start).

Wouldn't you know it, I believe the warranty is only good for 2 years :-(.

It might be worth it to tear into the failed one and re-flow the solder joints?

May do that out of curiosity
Ordered a
Witten from Pelican as new glovebox relay. Rep said they sold 270 and got 2 back last year. Bestselling relay

Little soldering experience but I assume you just touch the joint with a hot iron long enough to melt the solder

I know the data is not strong but I'm feeling it's a crapshoot anyhow

I also use paste flux just for the iron itself. I just dip the iron in it real quick.
just melt it and let the solder kind of flow. if the lead from the components stick up enough, as I remove the iron from the solder, I kind of move it up the lead to pull th solder to it.
dont leave the iron on it too long. if the solder wont melt or you have a hard time, I use a very thin solder (1mm) and put just a dab on there to help the joint melt.
